Syven
Syven is a Finnish band from Riihimäki, formed in 2007. The band released their début album '' Aikaintaite'' through Vendlus Records in 2011; the second album, '' Corpus Christi (Syven album)'', was released the following year. Biography Syven was created in July 2007, after the vocalist Andy Koski-Semmens moved to Finland and decided to collaborate with the multi-instrumentalist and composer Aslak Tolonen, previously active in several bands, including Nest. Tolonen was composing new material when he noticed that his music had become darker and heavier, compared to the Nest's last release, prompting him to create a new band. In 2010, Syven released a demo, which was sent to various labels, and contributed one track, "How Fare the Gods?" to the compilation album ''Whom the Moon a Nightsong Sings''. ''Aikaintaite'' is the début full-length album by the Finnish ambient, neofolk, and metal band Syven. It was released on December 6, 2011 through Vendlus Records. Concept The album's concept, greatly inspired by shamanism and animism, is to imagine the soundscapes of the Finnish forests, lakes and rivers, as the land was emerging from the last glacial period. ''Aikaintaites main theme is the interplay between the passages of time, short and long, their effects and their changing appearances when looked from other time frames. The album's Finnish title means the passing or folding of time. The album's cover art, created by the band's songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Aslak Tolonen, consists of reproductions of two ink paintings, ''Kotkan Sarvet'' (''Eagle's Horns'') and ''Hillerin Kallo'' ('' European Polecat's Skull''). Riihimäki (literally "Drying barn hill") is a town and municipality in the south of Finland, about north of Helsinki and southeast of Tampere. Neofolk
Neofolk, also known as apocalyptic folk, is a form of experimental music blending elements of folk and industrial music, which emerged in punk rock circles in the 1980s. Neofolk may either be solely acoustic or combine acoustic folk instrumentation with various other sounds. Nest (band)
Nest is a neofolk / ambient band from Riihimäki, Finland, formed in 1999. The band's inspiration comes from the Finnish folklore, as well as from the works of J. R. R. Tolkien and the Grimm Brothers. Kantele, a traditional Finnish musical instrument, is very prominent in the band's music. They contributed a cover of the song "The Gallant Crow" to the Skepticism tribute album "Entering the Levitation". Biography Nest was formed in the spring of 1999 by Aslak Tolonen, who had previously composed computer-generated metal music. During the 1990s, Tolonen learned to play kantele, which coincided with gradual loss of heavy elements from his compositions, until he decided to settle on the acoustic and ambient style exclusively, marking the formation of the band.
