Syracuse Terminal Subdivision
The Syracuse Terminal Subdivision is a railroad line owned by CSX Transportation in the U.S. state of New York. The line runs from Oneida, New York, at its east end where it continues from the Mohawk Subdivision to Solvay, New York, at its west end where it continues as the Rochester Subdivision. In Syracuse, New York, (just north of the Destiny USA mall) the St. Lawrence Subdivision begins its run north. History On January 24, 2011 at 0930 hours the Syracuse Terminal Subdivision went into service. Railroad
Rail transport (also known as train transport) is a means of transport that transfers passengers and goods on wheeled vehicles running on rails, which are incorporated in tracks. Oneida (, one, kanaˀalóhaleˀ) is a city in Madison County located west of Oneida Castle (in Oneida County) and east of Wampsville, New York, United States. The population was 11,390 at the 2010 census. The city, like both Oneida County and the nearby silver and china maker, was named for the Oneida tribe, which had a large territory here around Oneida Lake during the colonial period. Mohawk Subdivision
The Mohawk Subdivision is a railroad line owned by CSX Transportation in the U.S. state of New York. The line runs from Amsterdam, NY west to Oneida, NY along the former New York Central Railroad main line. At its east end, east of downtown Amsterdam, the line becomes the Selkirk Subdivision. With the creation of the CSX Syracuse Terminal Subdivision, the west end is at Oneida, New York. Amtrak's ''Empire Service'', ''Lake Shore Limited'', and ''Maple Leaf'' operate over the entire Mohawk Subdivision. Solvay, New York
Solvay is a village located in the town of Geddes, Onondaga County, New York, United States, and a suburb of the city of Syracuse. According to the 2010 census, the village had a total population of 6,584. The village is named after the Solvay brothers, Belgian inventors of the chemical process employed by the Solvay Process Company, formerly the major industry of the village. History The area was within the former Central New York Military Tract, but Solvay was in a location reserved for members of the Onondaga tribe. The village was initially founded in 1794 by James Geddes and was initially called "Geddesburgh." The first residents were mostly Irish, subsequently joined by Tyroleans and Poles. The Rochester Subdivision is a railroad line owned by CSX Transportation in the U.S. state of New York. The line runs from Solvay, New York, west to Churchville, New York, along the former New York Central Railroad water level route. At its east end, west of downtown Syracuse, New York, the line continues west from the Syracuse Terminal Subdivision at Control Point (CP)-296. It intersects the West Shore Subdivision, which provides a southern bypass of Rochester, at Fairport (CP-359) and Churchville (CP-382). At its west end in Churchville the line becomes the Buffalo Terminal Subdivision.
