John Miles (born John Errington; 23 April 1949 – 5 December 2021) was a British rock singer, guitarist and keyboard player best known for his 1976 top 3 UK hit single " Music" and his frequent appearances at Night of the Proms. He won the "Outstanding Musical Achievement" award at the 2017 Progressive Music Awards. He released 10 albums from 1976 to 1999 and was also the touring musician for Tina Turner in 1987. Night Of The Proms
Night of the Proms is a series of concerts held annually in Belgium (since 1985), the Netherlands, Germany and Luxembourg. Regularly there are also shows in France, Spain, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, Denmark, the United States and Sweden. The concerts consist of pop music and popular classical music (often combined) and various well-known musicians and groups usually participate (see below). Night of the Proms is the biggest annually organised indoor event in Europe. Night of the Proms is based on the Last Night of the Proms, the last concert of the BBC Proms, a series of seventy or so classical concerts held yearly in the Royal Albert Hall in London, but it is organised independently. Geordie ( ) are a British rock band from Newcastle upon Tyne, most notably active in the 1970s. History Formation (1971–1980) The original (from February 1972) Geordie line-up included: Vic Malcolm (lead guitar), Tom Hill (bass guitar), Brian Gibson (drums) and Brian Johnson (lead vocals). ''Melody Maker'' was a British weekly music magazine, one of the world's earliest music weeklies; according to its publisher, IPC Media, the earliest. The ''Daily Mirror'' is a British national daily tabloid. Founded in 1903, it is owned by parent company Reach plc. ''Stranger in the City'' was the second solo album by John Miles and was released in 1977. It was awarded BPI Silver Certification on 19 July 1977. Recording sessions with its producer and orchestral arranger Rupert Holmes started in the summer of 1976 in the United States when Miles was promoting his first album ''Rebel''. The bulk of the album was recorded in England. For this album, Miles recruited Australian keyboardist Gary Moberley because Miles felt that his previous album was missing something funky. Both "Remember Yesterday" and "Slow Down" charted in the UK (respectively 32 and 10) and would be the last Miles singles to chart in Britain until 1983. Although the singles did fairly well, the album itself barely cracked the top 40 of the UK chart and reaching No. 82 in Canada. However, the cut "Slow Down" proved to be Miles' biggest US chart hit, peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard Disco chart, No. 34 on the Billboard Hot 100 in June 1977, but just No. 68 in Canada. The ''Spokane Daily Chronicle'' is a daily digital newspaper in Spokane, Washington. It was founded as a weekly paper in 1881 and grew into an afternoon daily, competing with ''The Spokesman-Review'', which was formed from the merger of two competing papers. In 1897, the ''Chronicle'' was acquired by William H. Cowles and became part of the Cowles Publishing Company. Cowles already owned ''The Spokesman-Review''. Both papers operated out of the Spokesman-Review Building until 1921, but were kept independent; ''The Spokesman-Review'' had a Republican political slant, and the two papers maintained a friendly rivalry. ''Rebel'' was the first solo album of John Miles. It was his most successful album, and contained the singles "Highfly" and " Music". History When Miles signed to Decca, they introduced him to producer Alan Parsons in the summer of 1975 (Miles would later sing on several tracks on several albums of the Alan Parsons Project). The first song they recorded was the song "Highfly" and it was released as a single, eventually reaching #17 in the U.K., #68 on the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and #74 in Canada. Because of the success of the single, plans were made to record a full album and recording of the album took place in November–December 1975 at Abbey Road Studios. Decca Records is a British record label established in 1929 by Edward Lewis (Decca), Edward Lewis. ''Opportunity Knocks'' is a British television and radio talent show originally hosted by Hughie Green, with a late-1980s revival hosted by Bob Monkhouse, and later by previous winner Les Dawson.
