Amin Syam (12 December 1945 – 1 September 2023) was an Indonesian military officer and politician. A member of Golkar, he served as governor of South Sulawesi from 2003 to 2008. Education and military career Amin Syam was born in Bone, a locality in South Sulawesi, on 12 December 1945 as the son of Andi Syamsuddin Petta Wawo, a police officer, and Andi Bossa Daeng Matajang. Upon graduating from high school, he studied agriculture at the Hasanuddin University, but dropped out a few years later in favor of the Indonesian Military Academy. He graduated from the academy in 1965 and began his service in West Java as an instructor at the Artillery Education Center in Cimahi, West Java. He was reassigned to the 6th Field Artillery Battalion in Makassar, South Sulawesi to fight against Islamic rebel groups in the region. Château De Syam
The Château de Syam, located in the village of Syam in the French department of Jura was built in 1818 by Jean-Emmanuel Jobez regional industrialist and owner of the Forges de Syam, a forge and sheet metal works. The castle was listed as a ''Monument historique'' by the French Ministry of Culture in 1994. Inspiration Emmanuel Jobez lived in Paris for ten years where he met Pierre-Adrien Pâris, court architect to Louis XVI and also a native of Jura. Both men embraced Neoclassical architecture and together toured Italy where they visited works designed by Andrea Palladio. They returned impressed by classical architecture and its association with Enlightenment philosophy. The Forges de Syam (Syam Forges) are forge works and sheet metal mills at the confluence of the rivers Ain and Saine to the south of Champagnole in the French département of Jura. The documentary film ''Syam ou le temps forgé,'' filmed on location in 2016, examines the closure of the site after 200 years of operation. It was inspired by the book ''Les forges de Syam'' by Pierre Bergounioux. History of the site The forges were still active in 2005, and still used some machinery from the 19th century, when the buildings were erected. A tilt hammer mentioned 1757 and 1788 has been working as early as 1763, according to the record of a law case of 1763. It is reasonable to imagine it as part of the region's expansion in the metal-working industry in the 16th century, after establishment of the first smelting furnaces in the Saône valley.
