Switzerland is a nation that has competed at the Hopman Cup tournament on twelve occasions, the first being at the third annual staging in 1991. 1991 Hopman Cup
The 1991 Hopman Cup was the third edition of the Hopman Cup, an international mixed teams tournament played at the Burswood Entertainment Complex in Perth, Western Australia. The event was held from 27 December 1990 through 4 January 1991. Twelve teams competed in the tournament with the top four seeded teams (United States, Spain, Switzerland and the Soviet Union) each receiving a bye into the quarter-finals. The remaining eight teams played in the first round. In the final which was played on 4 January, Yugoslav pair, Goran Prpić and Monica Seles won both of their singles matches to defeat the American pair, Zina Garrison and David Wheaton without needing to go with the mixed doubles (which was also won by Yugoslavia). The 2002 Hopman Cup (also known as the Hyundai Hopman Cup for sponsorship reasons) was a tennis championship won by Spain's Arantxa Sánchez Vicario and Tommy Robredo. Henry Christian Hopman CBE (12 August 1906 – 27 December 1985) was an Australian tennis player and coach. Early life Harry Hopman was born on 12 August 1906 in Glebe, Sydney as the third child of John Henry Hopman, a schoolteacher, and Jennie Siberteen, née Glad. His family then moved to Parramatta. Hopman started playing tennis at the age of 13 and, playing barefoot, won an open singles tournament on a court in the playground of Rosehill Public School where his father was headmaster. He was later a student at Parramatta High School where he played tennis and cricket. Davis Cup Hopman was the successful captain-coach of 22 Australian Davis Cup teams from 1939 to 1967. Marc Rosset
Marc Rosset (born 7 November 1970) is a Swiss former professional tennis player. He is best known for winning the men's singles gold medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics. He also won a major doubles title, at the French Open in 1992 partnering compatriot Jakob Hlasek. Career Rosset turned professional in 1988 and won his first tour singles title in 1989 in Geneva as a wildcard, defeating Guillermo Pérez Roldán. His first doubles title was won in Geneva as well in 1991 with partner Sergi Bruguera. 1992 was the pinnacle of Rosset's career. Representing Switzerland at the Olympic Games in Barcelona, he defeated several top players en route to qualifying for the men's singles final, including Jim Courier, Goran Ivanišević, Wayne Ferreira, and Emilio Sánchez. The Hopman Cup IX corresponds to the ninth edition of the Hopman Cup tournament between nations in men's and women's tennis. The tournament was played between 29 December 1996 and 4 January 1997 at the Burswood Dome in Perth, Western Australia. Eight teams competed for the title. Burswood Dome
The Dome at Crown Perth (originally the Burswood Superdome and formerly the Burswood Dome) was a multipurpose indoor arena used for sports and entertainment. The dome was in size, with seating for 13,600 people. The whole arena was pressurised so that the fibreglass roof was suspended above the ground. It was a venue for indoor sports, notably the Hopman Cup tennis tournament, which was moved to the Perth Arena for the 2013 and future events, and for pop music concerts.
