Swiss Olympic Association
Swiss Olympic (also known as german: Schweizerischer Olympischer Verband, french: Association Olympique Suisse, it, Associazione Olimpica Svizzera, rm, Assiociaziun Olimpica Svizra) is the National Olympic Committee and the umbrella organisation for organised Swiss sport under private law. It has 104 members (81 national sports federations and 23 partner organisations), to which some two million people belong, practising sports in about 19,000 clubs. Swiss Olympic has its headquarters in the House of Sports in Ittigen near Bern. Swiss Olympic represents Olympic as well as non-Olympic sports and is a non-profit organisation. Konrad Stäheli (17 December 1866 – 5 November 1931) was a Swiss sports shooter who competed in the late 19th century and early 20th century and participated in the 1900 Summer Olympics and the 1906 Intercalated Games. Biography He participated in shooting at the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris and won three gold medals – in the Military Pistol team and the Military Rifle team, and in the Military Rifle individual. He also won a bronze medal in the free pistol competition; fellow Swiss shooter Karl Roderer won gold. Participating in shooting at the 1906 Intercalated Games at Athens, Stäheli took five more medals – a gold medal, two silver medals and a bronze medal in the individual rifle events, and another gold medal in the team rifle competition. Marcel Meyer de Stadelhofen (15 March 1878 – 3 April 1973) was a Swiss judge and shooter. He won two gold medals and a bronze medal at the 1906 Intercalated Games in Athens. Personal life Marcel Meyer de Stadelhofen was born in Dijon, France. He earned a PhD at the University of Geneva. In 1914, Meyer de Stadelhofen married Anne Louise Marie Jeanne Torrenté, an engineer's daughter. De Stadelhofen died on 3 April 1973 in Geneva, Switzerland. Career At the 1906 Intercalated Games in Athens, de Stadelhofen won the Free rifle, free position, 300m event, and the Free rifle 300m team event, alongside Alfred Grütter, Jean Reich, Louis Richardet, and Konrad Stäheli. He also came third in the Free rifle, kneeling event. Introduction Adolf Tobler (24 May 1835 – 18 March 1910) was a Swiss-German linguist and a philologist. Born in Hirzel in Zürich, Switzerland, he was a brother to linguist Ludwig Tobler (1827–1895). Adolf Tobler died in Berlin, Germany. Education and work-life He studied Romance philology at the universities of Zürich and Bonn, receiving his doctorate in 1857. At Bonn, he was influenced by the teachings of Friedrich Christian Diez and Nicolaus Delius.
