Swimming At The 2003 Pan American Games
The Swimming competition at the 14th Pan American Games was held August 12–18, 2003 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The competition was held in the outdoor (50m) pool of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center. It featured 32 long course (50m) events (equally split between men and women). Two swimmers won the first medals of their countries in swimming at Pan American Games at all times: Kristel Köbrich Kristel Arianne Köbrich Schimpl (born August 9, 1985 in Santiago, Chile) is an Olympic long-distance freestyle swimmer from Chile. Swimming At The 1999 Pan American Games
The Swimming competition at the 1999 Pan American Games took place in the Pan Am Pool in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, from August 2–7, 1999. In 32 events, the USA team won 10 golds, 7 by the women: the last time either the U.S. men's or women's team won fewer than ten golds was 1963, when there were only eight events for each. But the U.S. didn't send its very best to Winnipeg. That honor went to the team that headed for Sydney, Australia at the 1999 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships. Two swimmers won the first medals of their countries in swimming at Pan American Games at all times: Eileen Coparropa for Panama, and Janelle Atkinson for Jamaica. Ricardo Monasterio
Ricardo Andrés Monasterio Guimaraes (born October 22, 1978) is a former competition swimmer who represented Venezuela at the 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008 Summer Olympics. Monasterio was born in Caracas, Venezuela. He attended the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, where he swam for coach Gregg Troy's Florida Gators swimming and diving team in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) competition from 1999 to 2001. He received four All-American honors while swimming for the Gators. Monasterio graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor's degree in statistics in 2004. Monasterio won the 200-meter and 400-meter freestyle events at the 2003 Pan American Games. Mark Kyle Salyards (born December 17, 1980) is an American former competition swimmer who participated in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. Eduardo Aquiles Fischer (born March 25, 1980 in Joinville, Santa Catarina, Brazil) is an Olympic breaststroke swimmer from Brazil. He swam for Brazil at the 2000 and 2004 Olympics. Early years Eduardo began swimming at the age of seven, but only started competing at 11. The motivation came from his older brother, who has practiced the sport. His first club was the Joinville Tênis Clube, where he stayed for ten years. In 1999, he went to Minas Tênis Clube, where he went to defend the CR Vasco da Gama until 2002, when he returned to Joinville. The first major title came at the 1997 Brazilian Winter Championship, with the gold medal in the 100-metre breaststroke. Jarrod Thomas Marrs (born May 28, 1975) is an American competition swimmer who specialized in breaststroke events. He twice competed at the Pan American Games (1999 and 2003), winning a silver medal in the men's 100-meter breaststroke in both, and won a gold medal at the 2000 FINA Short Course World Championships as a member of the first-place U.S. team in the 4x100-meter medley relay. Mark Gangloff
Mark Daniel Gangloff (born June 8, 1982) is an American former competition swimmer, Olympic gold medalist, world champion, and former world record-holder. Gangloff represented the United States at two consecutive Summer Olympics. At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, he earned a gold medal by swimming for the winning U.S. team in the preliminary heats of the 4×100-meter medley relay. In individual competition, he placed fourth in the men's 100-meter breaststroke. Four years later at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, he again participated in his signature event, the 100-meter breaststroke, and placed eighth in the event final. Rogério Aoki Romero (born 22 November 1969 in Londrina, Paraná) is a former backstroke swimmer from Brazil, who competed at five consecutive Summer Olympics for his native country, starting in 1988.
