Swetland Building
The Swetland Building is a building located in Downtown Portland, downtown Portland, Oregon, Portland, Oregon, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. History Camera World was headquartered in the building from 1977 until the late-1990s, with its retail store occupying the ground floor at SW 5th and Washington until 1995, when it moved to the 400 SW Sixth Avenue building. The company's administrative offices and mail-order operations remained on other floors until at least 1997. Emil Schacht
Emil Schacht (November 20, 1854 – March 4, 1926) was an architect in Portland, Oregon. Schacht's work was prolific from the 1890s until World War I and he produced commercial buildings including factories and warehouses as well as residential projects, hotels and theatres. He is known for his craftsman architecture style homes and was a founding member of the 1902 Portland Association of architects. In Portland Schacht's firms included Emil Schacht & Son, and designed the Wheeldon Apartments in Portland: a 5-story brick Tudor Revival apartment building in Downtown Portland. The building became known as the Admiral Apartments in the 1970s and has also been known as the Admiral Hotel Apartments. It was built in 1909 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. Downtown Portland is the central business district of Portland, Oregon, United States. It is on the west bank of the Willamette River in the northeastern corner of the southwest section of the city and where most of the city's high-rise buildings are found. Camera World
Camera World was a retailer of photographic equipment and photofinishing services based in Portland, Oregon, United States, and founded in 1977. It was an independent company until 2002, and then from 2002 to 2016 it was a brand of Ritz Camera & Image or C&A Marketing. In the mid-1990s, it was one of the largest mail-order retailers of photographic and audio equipment in the nation. The company's revenues totalled $80 million in 1998, of which $16 million were from online shopping, online sales. Revenues grew to $115.7 million in 1999 (equivalent to $ million in ), and the company relocated its administrative offices and inventory to a new facility in Beaverton, Oregon, the following year. 400 SW Sixth Avenue is an eleven-story office building in Downtown Portland in the U.S. state of Oregon. Originally known as the First National Bank Building, it opened in 1960 as a six-story bank building. The tall mid-rise contains of space, with retail on the ground floor. From 1995 to 2016 the primary retail tenant was Camera World. History First National Bank of Oregon announced it would build a new headquarters building in 1957, with the contract to build the structure going to Hoffman Construction Company. The planned $3.5 million, five-story building was designed by Stanton, Boles, Maguire & Church and was to have of space. The building was to be on the site of the Century Theater and Lafayette Building, and would also require the demolition of part of the bank's existing headquarters.
