Swedish Agricultural Workers' Union
The Swedish Agricultural Workers' Union ( sv, Svenska Lantarbetareförbundet, SLF) was a trade union representing farm workers in Sweden. The first Swedish Agricultural Workers' Union was established in 1908, with the merger of the Agricultural Workers' Union of Central Sweden and the Agricultural Workers' Union of Scania, but it failed to grow, and dissolved in 1912. On 6 October 1918, a new Swedish Agricultural Workers' Union was established, at a conference in Mjölby. It initially had 1,717 members, and was based in Nyköping, but moved its headquarters to Stockholm in 1921, by which time membership had grown to 15,674. A trade union (labor union in American English), often simply referred to as a union, is an organization of workers intent on "maintaining or improving the conditions of their employment", ch. Mjölby ( or ) is a city and the seat of Mjölby Municipality, Östergötland County, Sweden with 12,245 inhabitants in 2010. Mjölby is located by the rivulet Svartån. The name "Mjölby" is derived from ''Mölloby'', which comes from or ''mölna'', meaning "mill". Nyköping
Nyköping () is a Urban areas in Sweden, locality and the seat of Nyköping Municipality, Södermanland County, Sweden with 32,759 inhabitants as of 2017. The city is also the capital of Södermanland County. Including Arnö, the locality on the southern shore of the bay just a couple of kilometres from the city centre, Nyköping would have above 36,000 inhabitants. Commonly, Arnö is referred to as a part of the city proper. It forms a wider conurbation with the neighbouring minor municipality and town of Oxelösund south of its outskirts. The Swedish Garden Workers Union ( sv, Svenska trädgårdsarbetareförbundet) was a trade union garden workers in Sweden. The union was founded on December 29, 1906. It was however disbanded in 1909. The Swedish Trade Union Confederation ( sv, Landsorganisationen i Sverige ; literally "National Organisation in Sweden"), commonly referred to as LO (), is a national trade union centre, an umbrella organisation for fourteen Swedish trade unions that organise mainly "blue-collar" workers. The Confederation, which gathers in total about 1.5 million employees out of Sweden's 10 million people population, was founded in 1898 by blue-collar unions on the initiative of the 1897 Scandinavian Labour Congress and the Swedish Social Democratic Party, which almost exclusively was made up by trade unions. The Swedish Municipal Workers' Union ( sv, Svenska Kommunalarbetareförbundet), is the largest trade union in Sweden with 570 000 members as of 2005, it was created 1910. It is commonly referred to as ''Kommunal'' ("''Municipal''"). The union was founded in Stockholm on 23 January 1910, as a split from the Swedish Factory Workers' Union. Like its predecessor, it affiliated to the Swedish Trade Union Confederation. It initially had 1,218 members, but grew rapidly. The Swedish Tramwaymen's Union left in 1917, but rejoined the following year. The Swedish Firefighters' Union joined in 1918, then the Swedish Hospital Staff Union split away in 1923, rejoining in 1945. By this point, the union had 59,426 members. Gunnar Sträng
Gunnar Georg Emanuel Sträng (23 December 1906 – 7 March 1992) was a Swedish Social Democratic politician, most known for being Sweden's longest serving minister for finance. Sträng grew up in a working-class family in Lövsta, today a part of Stockholm Municipality. After finishing school he started work as a gardener. In 1927 he joined the local branch of the gardeners' union and was soon elected to the board as secretary. A few years later, in 1932, he was elected as an official to the national union organisation for agricultural workers, with the task of recruiting new members in order to force the employers to consent to collective bargaining. In 1938, he was elected vice chairman of the trade union and the following year he succeeded the chairman. Börje Svensson
Börje Svensson (born 1928) is a Swedish former trade union leader. Born in Blekinge, Svensson began working as a cowhand, and also joined the Swedish Agricultural Workers' Union (SLF). He was soon elected as the education officer of his local branch, and also undertook his own studies, which enabled him to become a foreman at some stables. He went on to study labour movement relations, after which, the SLF nominated him to the Industrial Relations Board. In 1967, Svensson became the full-time Working Environment Officer at the SLF headquarters. In 1973, he was elected as president of the SLF, also serving on the executives of the Agricultural Credit Bank and that of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. In 1982, he was additionally elected as president of the International Federation of Plantation and Agricultural Workers (IFPAAW), then in 1988 he was elected as its full-time general secretary.
