Swan Canning Riverpark consists of the waterways and public foreshore reserves in the Swan and Canning Rivers in Perth, Western Australia. Established under the ''Swan and Canning Rivers Management Act 2006'', it has an area of . It is managed by the Parks and Wildlife Service of the WA Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) in conjunction with local authorities and on behalf of the Swan River Trust. The Swan River () is a river in the south west of Western Australia. The river runs through the metropolitan area of Perth, Western Australia's capital and largest city. Course of river The Swan River estuary flows through the city of Perth. Its lower reaches are relatively wide and deep, with few constrictions, while the upper reaches are usually quite narrow and shallow. The Swan River drains the Avon and coastal plain catchments, which have a total area of about . It has three major tributaries, the Avon River, Canning River and Helena River. The latter two have dams (Canning Dam and Mundaring Weir) which provide a sizeable part of the potable water requirements for Perth and the regions surrounding. Perth is the capital and largest city of the Australian state of Western Australia. Swan River Trust
The Swan River Trust was a Western Australian state government statutory authority defined by the Swan and Canning Rivers Management Act 2006. The Trust reported to the Minister for Environment. It was preceded by the Swan River Management Authority (1977–1989) and earlier Swan River Conservation Board (1959–1976). It was established in 1989 to protect and manage the Swan and Canning rivers. The Trust had several community engagement programs that allowed the Perth community to be involved in caring for the Swan Canning Riverpark including River Guardians, the Dolphin Watch Project, and Ribbons of Blue. Canning River Regional Park
The Canning River Regional Park is the largest of eight regional parks within the Perth metropolitan area. The park covers approximately on both sides of the Canning River between the bridges carrying Nicholson Road and Leach Highway over the Canning River. Canning River is a major tributary of the Swan River in south western Western Australia. Walyunga National Park
Walyunga National Park is a national park in Western Australia, 35 km northeast of Perth along the Great Northern Highway. The park is situated just behind the Darling Scarp in the Darling Range spread over a steeply sided valley. The Swan- Avon River and the Eastern Railway run through the park and the Avon Descent passes through a set of rapids along this section. The area is dominated by granite outcrops along with smaller dolerite areas, the tops of hills are capped with laterite. The park has barbeque, parking and toilet facilities. Also it is home to many animals such as grey kangaroo, galah, goanna, magpie, gecko and many other wildlife species. Plants include flooded gum, jarrah, petrophile and hakea. Walyunga is a 6000 year old meeting place used by the Noongar people. Currently it is an official protected area. The word ''Walyunga'' roughly translates to "Happy Place". Avon Valley National Park
Avon Valley is a national park in Western Australia, 47 kilometres northeast of Perth. It was named after the Avon River, which flows through it. The area is an undulating plateau with the sides of the valley steeply sloping back to the river approximately below. The area contains granite outcrops and a mix of soil types including loams, gravels and lateritic sands. It was officially named on 15 October 1971. Jarrah, marri and wandoo trees are found in the park along with 90 different species of birds, making it an ideal place for bird watching. Christmas trees and grasstrees are interspersed through the woodlands. In the springtime the park is visited by wildflower enthusiasts to view the diverse range of flowers, including dryandras, donkey orchids and lechenaultias. Other plants found in the area are Conostylis, and the rare fringed lily is also found within the park. Melville Water
Melville Water is a significant section of the Swan River in Perth, Western Australia. It is located west and downstream of Perth Water, from which it is separated by the Narrows Bridge. Name Melville Water was named in 1827 by Captain James Stirling, after 2nd Viscount Melville. The land south of Melville Water was named Melville Water Park Estate (in the area that is now Applecross) and was subdivided for development in 1896. Extent Melville Water lies between Point Resolution and Point Walter to the west, Point Heathcote at the mouth of the Canning River to the south-east, and the Narrows Bridge where it meets Perth Water to the north-east.
