Swagger (No-Man EP)
"Swagger" is a cassette EP and the second release by the then British trio No Man Is An Island, which would later rename and be known simply as No-Man. The cassette was made for the band to sell at concerts. It was later described by the band themselves as "very much a transitional release, with the band at an uncomfortable position between brash synthpop, abrasive art rock and the lusher atmospheres which would later become a No-Man trademark." Some promo versions also included "The Girl From Missouri" (the earlier self-titled debut release). "Bleed" was featured in two subsequent versions - one on the 'Sweetheart Raw' EP and one on 'Heaven Taste'. The song "Flowermouth" has no link with the Flowermouth album besides the title (although parts of the song were recycled for "Lovecry" on their 1993 debut LP Loveblows & Lovecries - A Confession). No-Man are an English art pop duo, formed in 1987 as No Man Is an Island (Except the Isle of Man) by singer Tim Bowness and multi-instrumentalist Steven Wilson. The band has so far produced seven studio albums and a number of singles/outtakes collections (most notably, 2006's career retrospective, ''All the Blue Changes''). ''Heaven Taste'' is a compilation of B-sides and rarities released by British art rock band No-Man in 1995 and remastered in 1998. It consists on a collection of unreleased music recorded in a range of years between 1991 and 1995. The sound of the songs is often similar to Nick Drake, Talk Talk and Steve Reich. In ''Heaven Taste'' was remastered and released with new cover art. The title track on this reissue is slightly longer. The version of Nick Drake's "Road" was originally featured on the 1991 Nick Drake tribute album, ''Brittle Days''. ''Flowermouth'' is the second studio album by British duo No-Man, released in 1994 on the One Little Indian Records label, and subsequently reissued on September, 1999 by 3rd. Stone Ltd, and in a deluxe format by Snapper Music in February 2005. History Flowermouth was considered the band's most ambitious album to date, and remains a fan favourite. Despite being the band's best selling release, it was obvious by now that No-Man couldn't continue along the path which their record company wanted them to follow. Following ''Flowermouths release, No-Man parted company with both One Little Indian in Britain and Epic/Sony in the US. Samuel Smiles (band)
Samuel Smiles (frequently known as Tim Bowness/Samuel Smiles, the name to which all of their albums were attributed) were an intermittently active English ambient-folk band. Their best-known lineup featured singer Tim Bowness of the band No-Man. Band history During the mid-1980s, Michael Bearpark had played guitar for two Warrington art rock groups, After The Stranger and Plenty, both of which also featured future No-Man singer Tim Bowness. Bearpark subsequently moved south to study chemistry at King's College, London, where he won the Samuel Smiles Award For Scientific Genius (named after the Scottish writer, social reformer and self-help advocate). Bearpark had stayed in touch with Bowness, who suggested that "Samuel Smiles" might be a good band name.
