Svendborg Municipality
Svendborg Municipality () is a ''Municipalities of Denmark, kommune'' in the Region of Southern Denmark on the southeast coast of the island of Funen, as well as on the islands of Drejø, Hjortø, Skarø, Thurø, and Tåsinge off Funen's southeastern shores in south-central Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 418 km2, and has a total population of 60,001 (2025). Its mayor is Bo Hansen (2017), a member of the Social Democrats (Denmark), Social Democrats Politics of Denmark, political party. The main town and the site of its municipal council is the city of Svendborg. South of the municipality separating that part located on Funen from the other islands is Svendborg Strait (''Svendborg Sund''). Municipalities Of Denmark
Denmark is divided into five regions of Denmark, regions, which contain 98 municipalities (, ; , ). The Capital Region of Denmark, Capital Region has 29 municipalities, Region of Southern Denmark, Southern Denmark 22, Central Denmark Region, Central Denmark 19, Region Zealand, Zealand 17 and North Denmark Region, North Denmark 11. Tåsinge () is a Danish island immediately south of Funen, opposite and facing Svendborg, divided from Funen by Svendborgsund.See detailed Denmark roadmap in References section. The island covers an area of circa . It is part of the South Funen Archipelago and has 6,111 inhabitants. The Danish national road 9 crosses the island. Until the municipality reform of 1970, the island retained its own municipality (sognekommune). Since 1970, it has been part of Svendborg Municipality. Before the 1960s, when the island became connected to Funen via the Svendborgsund Bridge and to Langeland via the Langeland Bridge, it was served by ferries from Svendborg to Vindeby and from Vemmenæs to Rudkøbing respectively. Ærø
Ærø () is one of the Denmark, Danish Baltic Sea islands, and part of the Region of Southern Denmark, Southern Denmark Region. Since 1 January 2006 all of Ærø has constituted a single Municipalities of Denmark, municipality, known as Ærø Municipality, Ærø Kommune. Before that date, there were two municipalities on the island: Ærøskøbing Municipality, Ærøskøbing Kommune in the west and Marstal Municipality, Marstal Kommune in the east. This merger was part of a reform of the public sector with the laws being effective as of 26 June 2005. This merger was allowed to happen one year before the other municipalities merged as there had already been an island-wide referendum with a majority of voters for the merger. Ærøskøbing
Ærøskøbing () is a town on the island of Ærø, Denmark. The suffix -købing means a trade town in the languages that derive from Old Norse. Ærøskøbing's houses and streets are delicately restored to retain the character of the olden days. Most of them are one story tall, and the oldest ones date back to 1645. In the old part of the town are many fine examples of the work of skilled bricklayers, carpenters, and blacksmiths. Behind the idyllic façade of the town is a vibrant and active town that has solved successive generations' housing needs for centuries. Ærøskøbing was awarded the Europa Nostra prize in 2002. Rudkøbing
Rudkøbing is a town in Denmark, on the western coast of the island of Langeland. It is the seat of Langeland Municipality, in the Region of Southern Denmark, Southern Denmark Region. The town is located southeast of Svendborg and is connected to Siø through the Siøsund Bridge. Langeland Bridge
Langeland Bridge (Danish language, Danish, ''Langelandsbroen'') is a road bridge that connects the islands Langeland and Siø. From Siø a connection exists via Tåsinge to Funen. It was built from 1960 to 1962. Dimensions The Langeland Bridge is 771 metres long and 15 m metres wide. The longest span is 91 metres, and the maximum clearance to the sea is 26 metres. Siø
Siø is a small Denmark, Danish island in the South Funen Archipelago between Tåsinge and Langeland. It is part of Langeland Municipality. With an area of 1.3 km2, as of 1 January 2014 it has a population of 16. Since 1681, a system of dykes has expanded it to include the former islands of Skovø and Store Fugleø.
