Svend Foyn Bruun Jr.
Svend Foyn Bruun Jr. (born 1 May 1926 – died 1 November 2008) was a Norwegian ship-owner and whaler. He was born in Kristiania, as a son of Svend Foyn Bruun (1883–1956) and Ellen Bruusgaard (1887–1969). He was a grandson of Carsten Henrik Bruun and nephew of Carsten Henrik Bruun Jr. He enrolled in law studies in 1946 and took the cand.jur. degree in 1950. He was a junior solicitor and deputy judge from 1951 to 1956, and from 1956 he was a co-owner of the company Svend Foyn Bruun. He was also chairman of Tønsberg Papirindustri and a board member of Kosmos and Pelagos. Carsten Henrik Bruun
Carsten Henrik Carstensen Bruun (1828–1907) was a Norwegian whaler. Personal life He was born in Risør as a son of Mathias Wogen Bruun (1791–1858) and Ingeborg Carstensen (1794–1882). His wife was a relative of founding father Henrik Carstensen. In 1859 he married Maren Sibylle Bull Foyn (1840–1918), a daughter of Laurentius Føyn Jr and niece of noted whaler Svend Foyn. A/S Kosmos was a shipping and industrial company from Sandefjord. It was founded in 1928 by Anders Jahre, Svend Foyn Bruun, Sr. and Anton Barth von der Lippe as Hvalfangstselskapet Kosmos A/S. In 1949 Hvalfangstselskapet Kosmos A/S (A/S Kosmos) and its sister company Hvalfangstselskapet Kosmos II A/S (A/S Kosmos II) were fused to make the company A/S Kosmos. In 1986, the brothers Arne and Wilhelm Blystad sought to take control of the company, without luck.
