Sven Mollekleiv
Sven Mollekleiv (born 2 March 1956) is a Norwegian organisational leader and Honorary President of the Norwegian Red Cross. He served as Secretary General of the Norwegian Red Cross from 1991 to 2001 and President on a voluntary basis from October 2008 to October 2017. Background and education Sven Mollekleiv was born in Bergen in Norway, but grew up in Oslo. After finishing upper secondary school in Oslo, Mollekleiv continued with further studies at Norwegian School of Sport Sciences where he was awarded a master's degree. While a student, Sven Mollekleiv chaired the Norwegian Student Union, where he later also worked as an editor. Sven Mollekleiv is married and lives in Oslo with three daughters. Sven (in Danish and Norwegian, also Svend and also in Norwegian most commonly Svein) is a Scandinavian first name which is also used in the Low Countries and German-speaking countries. The name itself is Old Norse for "young man" or "young warrior". The original spelling in Old Norse was ''sveinn''. Over the centuries, many northern European rulers have carried the name including Sweyn I of Denmark (Sven Gabelbart). Jan Egeland
Jan Egeland (born 12 September 1957) is a Norwegian diplomat, political scientist, humanitarian leader and former Labour Party politician who has been Secretary General of the Norwegian Refugee Council since 2013. He served as State Secretary in the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1990 to 1997 and as United Nations Undersecretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator from 2003 to 2006. The Norwegian Red Cross (''Norges Røde Kors'') was founded on 22 September 1865 by prime minister Frederik Stang. In 1895 the Norwegian Red Cross began educating nurses, and in 1907 the Norwegian Ministry of Defence authorized the organization for voluntary medical aid in war.
