Sven Goldemann
Sven Goldemann (born 22 June 1969 in Hamburg) is a German curler. He started curling in 1980. At the 2013 Olympic Qualifying Event Goldemann played lead for the John Jahr skipped German men's team. The team finished the round robin in first place with a record of 5-2 and ultimately defeated the team from the Czech Republic to win the event. Goldemann's team went on to represent Germany in the 2014 Winter Olympics , ''Zharkie. Zimnie. Curling Club Hamburg
Curling is a sport in which players slide stones on a sheet of ice toward a target area which is segmented into four concentric circles. It is related to bowls, boules, and shuffleboard. Two teams, each with four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called ''rocks'', across the ice ''curling sheet'' toward the ''house'', a circular target marked on the ice. Each team has eight stones, with each player throwing two. The purpose is to accumulate the highest score for a ''game''; points are scored for the stones resting closest to the centre of the house at the conclusion of each ''end'', which is completed when both teams have thrown all of their stones once. Curling At The 2014 Winter Olympics – Qualification Event
The qualification event for the curling tournament at the 2014 Winter Olympics was held from December 10 to 15, 2013 at the BLZ Arena in Füssen, Germany. The top two teams from the qualification event qualified their nations to participate in the Olympics. The qualification event was open to any nations that earned qualification points at the 2012 or 2013 World Curling Championships or participated at the 2011 World Curling Championships (the South Korea men's team and the Norway women's team). Competition format In both the men's and the women's tournaments, the teams played a single round robin, and at its conclusion, the top three teams advanced to the playoffs. Lead (curling)
In curling, the lead is the person who delivers the first two stones of the end for their team. On most teams, where the lead does not act as skip or vice, the lead will sweep for each of their teammates shots. Because of the free-guard-zone rule, which prevents leads from removing most of an opponents guards, leads are usually proficient at throwing guards and draws, and throw few takeouts or other power shots. John Jahr
John "Johnny" Jahr (born 10 April 1965 in Hamburg) is a retired German curler. Career Jahr was the skip of the German team at the 1984 World Junior Curling Championships, where he led the team to a 7th-place finish. After juniors, he was picked up by Rodger Gustaf Schmidt to play second for him. It was as a member of the Schmidt team that Jahr won a gold medal at the 1985 European Curling Championships and a silver medal at the 1987 Hexagon World Men's Curling Championship. The team represented Germany at the 1990 European Curling Championship as well, but placed tenth. Jahr would later leave the Schmidt team to form his own team. He skipped the German team to a 9th place at the 1996 Ford World Men's Curling Championship and a 7th-place finish at the 2011 European Curling Championships. This is a glossary of terms in curling. #s During a game, sweepers might call out numbers. These numbers indicate how far the sweepers think the rock in play will travel. This system is relatively new to the game and is often attributed to the Randy Ferbey rink since they were the first major team to use the system, but it is not known whose idea it originally was. 1 to 3 indicates a rock in the free guard zone, 4 to 6 the rings in front of the tee line, 7 being on the button, and 8 to 10 the rings behind the tee line. Sometimes, 11 is used to indicate a stone thrown so that it passes through the house and out of play.
