Curling At The 2014 Winter Olympics – Qualification Event
The qualification event for the curling tournament at the 2014 Winter Olympics was held from December 10 to 15, 2013 at the BLZ Arena in Füssen, Germany. The top two teams from the qualification event qualified their nations to participate in the Olympics. The qualification event was open to any nations that earned qualification points at the 2012 or 2013 World Curling Championships or participated at the 2011 World Curling Championships (the South Korea men's team and the Norway women's team). Competition format In both the men's and the women's tournaments, the teams played a single round robin, and at its conclusion, the top three teams advanced to the playoffs. In the playoffs, the first and second seeds played a game to determine the first team to advance to the main Olympic tournament. Curling At The 2014 Winter Olympics
The curling competition of the 2014 Winter Olympics was held at the Ice Cube Curling Center, nicknamed "the Ice Cube". It is the sixth time that curling was on the Olympic program. In both the men's and women's competitions, ten nations competed. These two events took place from 10 to 21 February 2014. The Canadian women's team went through the whole competition undefeated, the first time this has happened in an Olympic women's curling competition. Additionally, both the Canadian men's and women's teams won the gold medal, becoming the first country to do so in the history of the event. Tony Angiboust
Tony Angiboust (born 10 June 1983 in Chamonix, France) is an internationally elite curler from France. Career Tony Angiboust started curling in 1992 and curls out of the Sport Club of Chamonix. He currently is on the French team skipped by Thomas Dufour. He made his World Championship debut in 2007 where the team placed with a 6 - 5 record which placed them in a tie for fourth. However, they lost their tiebreaker against Team Sweden (skipped by Peja Lindholm) and finished in a tie for fifth place. Team France also finished the 2008 World Championships with a 6 - 5 record which again placed them in fifth place. At the 2009 World Championships they placed eighth with a 4 - 7 record. Pauli Jäämies (born April 22, 1985 in Clearwater, Florida) is a Finnish curler from Helsinki. He currently plays for the Finnish national team, skipped by Aku Kauste. He is known for sporting long black dreadlocks. Jäämies made his international debut for Finland at the 2012 European Mixed Curling Championship, winning a bronze medal playing second on the team. Jani Sullanmaa (born 19 December 1981 in Hyvinkää) is a Finland, Finnish curling, curler. He currently plays third for Aku Kauste. Sullanmaa played juniors for Tuomas Vuori as his third. He won a silver medal at the 2003 Junior "B" World Championships followed up with a 9th-place finish at the 2003 World Junior Curling Championships. Sullanmaa would then join Markku Uusipaavalniemi's team. He first played as the team's alternate and moved to second position after the 2006 Winter Olympics. Aku Kauste (born 17 November 1979) is a Finnish curler from Helsinki. He is currently the skip for the national team of Finland. Kauste is one of the most successful curling players in Finland, with over 20 medals in the Finnish Curling Championships (juniors, men's, mixed, mixed doubles). Career Kauste started curling in 1994 with his father Timo Kauste. In 1998, Kauste made his first international appearance at the World Junior Curling Championships. Jakub Bareš (born 20 March 1988) is a Czech curler from Prague. He currently plays lead for the Czech national men's curling team. As a junior curler, Bareš played in two World Junior Curling Championships. His first was the 2007 World Junior Curling Championships where he skipped the Czech team which also included Jiri Candra, Martin Hejhal and Martin Stepanek. The team did not win a single game at the event, finishing in last place. Bareš was invited to be the Czech team's alternate at the 2008 World Junior Curling Championships, skipped by Krystof Chaloupek. Jindřich Kitzberger (born 13 April 1981) is a Czech curler. He currently throws lead stones for the Jiří Snítil rink. As a junior curler, Kitzberger played in two World Junior Curling Championships. He played in the 1999 World Junior Curling Championships where he threw second stones for Vit Nekovarik. The team finished in 9th place. The team returned the following year, and at the 2000 World Junior Curling Championships they had a worse showing, finishing last, in 10th place. This finish relegated the Czech Republic to the World Juniors B Pool, and Kitzberger would not return to the main event. Martin Snítil (born 20 November 1978) is a Czech curler. He currently plays second on a team skipped by his brother, Jiří. Snítil made his international curling debut at the 2003 European Curling Championships, having coached the Czech men's team the previous season. Martin played second on the Czech team, skipped by his brother Jiří, and they finished 15th. The team returned to the European Championships in 2006, this time with Martin playing third on the team. At the 2006 European Curling Championships, they finished 11th.
