Suzanna Randall
Suzanna Randall (born 6 December 1979) is a German astrophysicist working at the European Southern Observatory. In 2018, Randall was selected as an astronaut candidate in the private spaceflight programme Die Astronautin, which aims to send the first German woman into space. Education and career Suzanna Randall was born in Cologne, Germany on 6 December 1979 to a British father and German mother. Randall recalls initially not being interested in studying science in school. Her role model was the astronaut Sally Ride, the first American woman in space, and the desire to become an astronaut led Randall to switch from studying English and German to physics and math. After she graduated from the Dietrich-Bonhoeffer-Gymnasium in Bergisch Gladbach in 1998, she received a master's degree in astronomy at University College London in 2002 and completed a PhD in astrophysics at the Université de Montréal, advised by Gilles Fontaine, in 2006. Atacama Large Millimeter Array
The Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) is an astronomical interferometer of 66 radio telescopes in the Atacama Desert of northern Chile, which observe electromagnetic radiation at millimeter and submillimeter wavelengths. The array has been constructed on the elevation Chajnantor plateau - near the Llano de Chajnantor Observatory and the Atacama Pathfinder Experiment. Insa Thiele-Eich is a German meteorologist and astronaut candidate, selected by the German non-government Die Astronautin project in April 2017. She was one of two women selected to be the first German woman in space, the end goal of the Die Astronautin initiative. Early life and education Thiele-Eich was born on 21 April 1983 in Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Her father is European Space Agency astronaut Gerhard Thiele, who flew as mission specialist aboard Space Shuttle Endeavour's STS-99 mission in 2000. Nicola Winter (; born 10 March 1985) is a German reserve astronaut and former fighter pilot. Winter became the second female fighter pilot in the history of the German Air Force in 2007 flying both Tornado and Eurofighter Typhoon in the German Air Force.
