Suwon Central Baptist Church
Suwon Central Baptist Church is an Evangelical Christian Baptist megachurch located in Suwon, South Korea, affiliated with the Korea Baptist Convention. At present, the senior pastor is Myung Jin Ko. History The church was founded in 1951. In 1960, Billy Kim became the senior pastor of the church which counts 10 people. Robert E. Korea Baptist Convention
The Korea Baptist Convention is a Baptist Christian denomination in South Korea. It is affiliated with the Baptist World Alliance. The headquarters is in Seoul. History The Korea Baptist Convention has its origins in the early Baptist churches established by Canadian missionary Malcolm Fenwick in 1896. The International Mission Board also contributed to the planting of churches. The Convention is officially founded in 1949. Suwon
Suwon (, ) is the capital and largest city of Gyeonggi-do, South Korea's most populous province which surrounds Seoul, the national capital. Suwon lies about south of Seoul. It is traditionally known as "The City of Filial Piety". With a population close to 1.3 million, it is larger than Ulsan Metropolitan City, Ulsan, although it is not governed as a metropolitan city. Megachurch
A megachurch is a church with an unusually large membership that also offers a variety of educational and social activities, usually Protestant or Evangelical. The Hartford Institute for Religion Research defines a megachurch as any Protestant Christian church having 2,000 or more people in average weekend attendance. The megachurch is an organization type rather than a denomination. The concept originated in the mid 19th century, with the first one established in London, England, in 1861. More emerged in the 20th century, especially in the United States, and expanded rapidly through the 1980s and 1990s. Billy Kim
Billy (Jang Hwan) Kim (Hangul: 김장환) (born 1934) is a prominent Christian evangelist and humanitarian. He was the president of the Baptist World Alliance from 2000 until 2005 when he was succeeded by David Coffey. Early life Billy Kim was born in Suwon, Korea on July 25, 1934 into a poor farming family with three older brothers and an older sister. Born during the final years of the Japanese occupation, as a child he dreamed of becoming a politician in order to help his countrymen. When the Korean War broke out in June 1950, the Kim family could not escape thus enduring the hardships of war in Suwon. Billy worked as a houseboy for the U. S. military under Sgt. Carl Powers, who helped him go to America to get an education. He left Korea on November 12, 1951. Carl Powers enrolled Billy at Bob Jones Academy in Greenville, South Carolina where Billy converted to Christianity.
