Sutherland Parish, Cumberland
The Parish of Sutherland is one of the 57 parishes in Cumberland County, New South Wales, a cadastral unit for use on land titles. It was originally proclaimed as the parish of Southerland with an 'o', but was misspelled without it on the government gazette. It includes all of the Kurnell peninsula, with Botany Bay and the Georges River to the north; part of the Woronora River to the west; and Port Hacking to the south. Cumberland County, New South Wales
Cumberland County is a county in the State of New South Wales, Australia. Most of the Sydney metropolitan area is located within the County of Cumberland. The County of Cumberland stretches from Broken Bay to the north, the Hawkesbury River to the north-west, the Nepean River to the west, the Cataract River to the south-west and the northern suburbs of Wollongong to the south. It includes the area of the Cumberland Plain. Sylvania Waters, New South Wales
Sylvania Waters is a suburb in southern Sydney located in the state of New South Wales, Australia, south of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of Sutherland Shire. History Politician Thomas Holt (1811–1888) owned the land that stretched from Sutherland to Cronulla. Holt had built Sutherland House on the foreshore of Gwawley Bay in 1818, on the eastern side of Sylvania, which took its name from the original wooded vegetation. The word "Sylvania" comes from the Latin word ''sylvan'' or '' sylva ''which means "forest land". He established the Sutherland Estate Company in 1881 and a village grew there, with a post office opening in 1883. The school opened in 1884 but closed in 1891 and was not reopened until 1925. The Georges River, also known as Tucoerah River, is an intermediate tide-dominated drowned valley estuary, located to the south and west of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
