Susanne Teschl
Susanne Teschl (née Timischl, born 1971) is a biomathematician and professor of mathematics at the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien in Vienna, Austria. She is known for her research on the mathematical modeling of breath analysis. Education and career Teschle earned a diploma in mathematical physics at the University of Graz in 1995, and completed her Ph.D. there in 1998. Her dissertation, ''A Global Model for the Cardiovascular and Respiratory System'', was supervised by Franz Kappel. After working for the Austrian Science Fund, she joined the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien in 2001, and headed the Department of Applied Mathematics and Natural Sciences there from 2007 to 2010. Personal life Teschl is the daughter of Wolfgang Timischl, an Austrian mathematics teacher and textbook author. Biomathematics
Mathematical and theoretical biology, or biomathematics, is a branch of biology which employs theoretical analysis, mathematical models and abstractions of the living organisms to investigate the principles that govern the structure, development and behavior of the systems, as opposed to experimental biology which deals with the conduction of experiments to prove and validate the scientific theories. The field is sometimes called mathematical biology or biomathematics to stress the mathematical side, or theoretical biology to stress the biological side. Theoretical biology focuses more on the development of theoretical principles for biology while mathematical biology focuses on the use of mathematical tools to study biological systems, even though the two terms are sometimes interchanged. University of Applied Sciences Technikum Vienna (''German:'' Fachhochschule Technikum Wien) was founded in 1994 and became Vienna’s first university of applied sciences in 2000. It is the largest technical university of applied sciences in Austria and offers twelve bachelor's degree and eighteen master's degree programs. Exhaled breath analysis is a method in medicine for gaining information on the clinical state of an individual by monitoring the components present in the exhaled breath. It is a non-invasive method and breath samples can be extracted as often as desired. Identification and quantification of potential disease biomarkers can be seen as the driving force for the analysis of exhaled breath. Moreover, future applications for medical diagnosis and therapy control with dynamic assessments of normal physiological function or pharmacodynamics are intended. The Austrian Science Fund (german: Fonds zur Förderung der wissenschaftlichen Forschung, FWF) is the most important Austrian funding organization for basic research. Gerald Teschl
Gerald Teschl (born 12 May 1970 in Graz) is an Austrian mathematical physicist and professor of mathematics. He works in the area of mathematical physics; in particular direct and inverse spectral theory with application to completely integrable partial differential equations (soliton equations). Career After studying physics at the Graz University of Technology (diploma thesis 1993), he continued with a PhD in mathematics at the University of Missouri. The title of his thesis supervised by Fritz Gesztesy was ''Spectral Theory for Jacobi Operators'' (1995). After a postdoctoral position at the Rheinisch-Westfälischen Technische Hochschule Aachen (1996/97), he moved to Vienna, where he received his Habilitation at the University of Vienna in May 1998.
