Susana Mendes
Susana Mendes (born 1987) is an Angolan journalist. At the age of 23, she was appointed editor of the ''Angolense'', making her Angola's first female editor of a major weekly newspaper. In 2020 she joined Vida TV as editorial coordinator of their information department. Rafael Marques has praised her contributions to Angolan journalism: Life Susana Mendes was born in Benguela in western Angola. She attended high school in Luanda, and while there started training at the state-owned Rádio Nacional Angola. At the age of 17, she began working as a reporter at the Luanda-based business newspaper ''Agora''. The job enabled her to pay for her education at Universidade Independente de Angola. Mendes then worked at ''A Capital'', a private anti-corruption weekly. In 2005 Americo Gonçalves, founder of ''Angolense'' as well as ''A Capital'', recruited her to be editor of ''Angolense''. Vida TV is a Venezuelan community television channel. It was created in August 2003 and can be seen in the community of Ureña in the Pedro Maria Ureña Municipality of the Táchira State of Venezuela on UHF channel 51. Rafael Marques (journalist)
Rafael Marques de Morais (born 1971) is an Angolan journalist and anti-corruption activist who received several international awards for his reporting on conflict diamonds and government corruption in Angola. He currently heads the anti-corruption watchdog Maka Angola. Early life While growing up, Marques became disturbed by the worsening state of his country: “I had never heard of a lawyer, adno idea of what human rights were, no idea of what fighting corruption was”, he later recalled. “I realised that the way of addressing the issues that concerned me was by being a journalist.” He received a Bachelor of Arts, BA (Hons) Anthropology & Media from Goldsmiths, University of London and an African studies, MSc in African Studies from St Antony's College, University of Oxford. Benguela
Benguela (; Umbundu: Luombaka) is a city in western Angola, capital of Benguela Province. Benguela is one of Angola's most populous cities with a population of 555,124 in the city and 561,775 in the municipality, at the 2014 census. History Portuguese rule Benguela was founded in 1617 as ''São Felipe de Benguela'' by the Portuguese under Manuel Cerveira Pereira, 8th Governor of Angola (1604–1607). It was long the centre of an important trade, especially in slaves to Brazil and Cuba. Ships anchored about off the shore, in depths of and transferred loads to smaller boats which used five or six jetties in the town. However, the nearby deep-water sheltered harbour of Lobito was a much larger port. Besides the churches of S. Felipe and S. The Universiade is an international multi-sport event, organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The name is a portmanteau of the words "University" and " Olympiad". The Universiade is referred to in English as the World University Games or World Student Games; however, this latter term can also refer to competitions for sub-University grades students.
