Suriname Stock Exchange
The Suriname Stock Exchange (SSX) is the stock exchange of Suriname. The Surinamese dollar (ISO 4217 code ''SRD'') has been the currency of Suriname since 2004. It is divided into 100 '' cent''. The Surinamese dollar is normally abbreviated with the dollar sign ''$'', or alternatively ''Sr$'' to distinguish it from other dollar-denominated currencies. The National Assembly (''De Nationale Assemblée'', ''The Assembly'', commonly abbreviated "DNA") is the Parliament, representing the legislative branch of government in Suriname. It is a unicameral legislature. The assembly has been situated in the former park house at the Independence Square in Paramaribo, after a fire destroyed the old building of representation on 1 August 1996. A reconstruction of the old building was completed in 2022. Buiten-Sociëteit Het Park is a park and former Club (organization), club located on Onafhankelijkheidsplein in Paramaribo, Suriname. On 1 August 1996, the building which housed the National Assembly (Suriname), National Assembly of Suriname burned down, and the National Assembly moved to the former park house. History The square which is nowadays called Onafhankelijkheidsplein (Independence Square) used to be a training ground for soldiers stationed at Fort Zeelandia (Paramaribo), Fort Zeelandia. ''De Surinaamsche Bank'' (DSB; Bank of Suriname in English), is the largest bank in Suriname. History Simon Abendanon founded De Surinaamsche Bank (DSB) on 19 January 1865 in Paramaribo, and it opened for business on 18 July 1865 in the home of one of the founders, pending construction of its own building.
