Surfer (EP)
''Surfer'' is a 2001 EP by NOFX. The record was released on Fat Mike's record label, Fat Wreck Chords. The methodology for writing and recording the songs was much the same as the band's ''Fuck the Kids'' EP. Fat Mike wrote all of the songs in a limited amount of time, claiming to have only given himself ten minutes to finish each one, and did not teach the songs to the rest of the band until the day of recording. The EP was recorded in two full-day sessions, making it one of the band's fastest-completed EP or album recording, second to ''Fuck the Kids'' which was recorded and mixed in a day and a half. The EP was later included on the second disc of '' 45 or 46 Songs That Weren't Good Enough to Go on Our Other Records'', but with one track omitted ("Three Shits to the Wind") in order to preserve something unique about the original 7" release. NOFX
NOFX () is an American punk rock band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1983. Vocalist/bassist Fat Mike, guitarist Eric Melvin and drummer Erik Sandin are original founding and longest-serving members of the band, who have appeared on every release of the band, although Sandin departed briefly in 1985, only to rejoin the following year. El Hefe joined the band in 1991 to play lead guitar and trumpet, rounding out the current line-up. NOFX's mainstream success coincided with increased interest in punk rock during the 1990s, though, unlike many of their contemporaries (including Bad Religion, Green Day, and The Offspring), they have never been signed to a major label. Fat Wreck Chords (pronounced "Fat Records") is a San Francisco, California-based independent record label, focused on punk rock. It was started by NOFX lead singer Michael Burkett (better known as Fat Mike) in 1990. Pump Up The Valuum
''Pump Up the Valuum'' is the eighth studio album by the American punk rock band NOFX. It was released on June 13, 2000, on Epitaph Records, their last through the company. Production The album's title deliberately misspells the trademark "Diazepam, Valium" to avoid a lawsuit, similar to the one The Melvins faced for their album ''Lysol (album), Lysol''. This is explained in the ''45 Or 46 Songs...'' album booklet. The initial song, "And Now for Something Completely Similar," is a parody of the famous saying "And Now for Something Completely Different" from Monty Python skits. As a prank, the intro sounds very similar to "Linoleum" from the band's 1994 album ''Punk in Drublic'', right down to El Hefe warming up his voice before the song begins, while the solo bass part echoes Shadows of Defeat from Good Riddance (band), Good Riddance. ''BYO Split Series Volume III'' is a split album featuring the American punk rock bands Rancid and NOFX. It was released on March 5, 2002 through BYO Records' as the third entry in their ''BYO Split Series The ''BYO Split Series'' is a series of albums put out by BYO Records. Fat Mike
Michael John Burkett (born January 16, 1967), known professionally as Fat Mike, is an American musician and producer. He is the bassist and lead vocalist for the punk rock band NOFX and the bassist for the punk rock supergroup cover band Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. Fat Mike started out with his first band False Alarm in 1982. He credits Joe Escalante of the Vandals for introducing him to punk rock when he was 13 at a summer camp. Musical career While attending Beverly Hills High School, Mike began his musical career with the band False Alarm. After the band split up in 1983, he met Eric Melvin and Erik Sandin and formed the original line-up of NOFX. He has also appeared as a guest-vocalist on a number of other bands' tracks including "Peter Brady" on Screeching Weasel's 1993 album, ''Anthem for a New Tomorrow''. Fuck The Kids
''Fuck the Kids'' is a 7" EP by NOFX. All the tracks were recorded in one day over the course of about four hours. Fat Mike had written all the songs, but none of the other band members knew them. Mike would teach the band the song, they would record it, keeping the first take where the band actually managed to make it through the whole song, and then move on. Mike refers to it as "sloppiness in pure form. You can't fake that kind of sloppiness." The EP was later included on the second disc of '' 45 or 46 Songs That Weren't Good Enough to Go on Our Other Records'', but with one track omitted ("Stupid Canadians") in order to preserve the uniqueness of the original 7" release.Liner notes of '' 45 or 46 Songs That Weren't Good Enough To Go On Our Other Records'' The first 500 copies were pressed on clear-green vinyl, while all others appeared on black vinyl. ''45 or 46 Songs That Weren't Good Enough to Go on Our Other Records'' is a double album released in 2002 by NOFX. There were 47 songs on the CD version, and all the songs easily fit onto one CD. The band built up a list of songs that did not make it onto any of their albums, or had previously appeared on compilation albums, vinyl singles, or b-sides. Many of these had been dropped originally because of Fat Mike's tendency to not release albums that ran for too long. The first CD contained a collection of songs spanning almost the entirety of the band's career. The oldest track was from the band's first demo, and the newest was recorded for this album. The second CD contained the EPs ''Fuck the Kids'' and '' Surfer'', each of which contained 13 or so very short songs that were previously available only on 7" vinyl. Fat Mike chose to leave one song off of each of the EPs when compiling this CD, "just to annoy people a bit". The vinyl release of the album was renamed to ''22 Songs ...
