Surbiton Hockey Club
Surbiton Hockey Club is a field hockey club based in Long Ditton, Surrey, England. The club is one of the oldest hockey clubs in the world, being established in 1874. The home ground is based in Long Ditton, at Sugden Road. The club is currently the leading club in England with the women's team winning the league for eight years in succession and the men's team winning the three of the last four league titles. The Men's 1st Team play in the Men's England Hockey League and the Ladies 1st Team play in the Women's England Hockey League. The club fields twelve men's sides, including one veterans and one super-vets team, as well as eight ladies sides and also youth sides. The men's 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th teams play in divisions of the Higgins Group London Hockey League, while the 'Jokers' and 'Magnets' sides play in the veterans section of this league. Men's England Hockey League
The Men's England Hockey League is a field hockey league organized by England Hockey that features men's teams from England and Wales. Format Regular season There are 62 teams in the league, the top tier consists of a Premier Division of twelve teams. Below this is tier two, which consists of two ten-team Division One regional teams (North and South). The third tier consists of three regional conferences North, West, and East, all consisting of ten teams. The teams play each other home and away during an 18 week season from September to April. The league has a winter break between December and February. The winners of the Premier Division regular season automatically qualify to play in the Euro Hockey League. Tom Sorsby
Thomas Callum Sorsby (born 28 October 1996) is an English field hockey player who plays as a midfielder or defender for Dutch Hoofdklasse club Den Bosch and the England and Great Britain national teams. Club career Sorsby played club hockey in the Men's England Hockey League Premier Division for Surbiton until 2023. He joined Surbiton for the 2018–19 season, from the University of Nottingham. He has also played for Beeston and Sheffield Hallam. After his stint at Surbiton he left England to play for Den Bosch in the Dutch Hoofdklasse. International career Sorsby has played for England under-18 and under-21 level and for Great Britain under-21 and under-23. Luke Taylor (born 15 September 1994) is an English field hockey player who plays as a defender for Surbiton and the England and Great Britain national teams. He was educated at Whitgift School. Club career Taylor plays club hockey in the Men's England Hockey League Premier Division for Surbiton. He has also played club hockey for Loughborough Students and East Grinstead. International career He made his senior debut for England in August 2017 against the Netherlands, in Spain. He played for England U21 at the Junior World Cup in 2013 and won a European Championships U21 bronze medal in 2014. Seething Wells
Seething Wells is a neighbourhood in southwest London on the border between Surbiton in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames in Greater London, and Elmbridge in Surrey. The area was historically a waterworks that supplied London with water from the River Thames. Nowadays it is mainly a residential area, with the notable exception of decommissioned filter beds — the Seething Wells Filter Beds — in the northwest part of the area that borders the Thames. Etymology The name is a gradual corruption of the original Siden Wells which appears on maps from the 18th century, recorded as the medicinal spring at Soothing Wells in a time-of-construction guide to the South Western railway and its neighbouring countryside.
