SuperSport United Football Club (often known as SuperSport) is a South African professional football club based in Atteridgeville in Pretoria in the Gauteng province. The team currently plays in the Dstv Premiership. United is known as ''Matsatsantsa a Pitori'' amongst its supporters. They usually play their home games at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville. History Supersport F.C. is an association football club wholly owned by SuperSport, the South African group of television channels. The club was originally known as Pretoria City. City was purchased by M-Net in 1994. M-Net got approval from the National Soccer League and the club was renamed. The club comprises a professional football team affiliated to the Premier Soccer League as well as various youth academy teams in the SuperSport United Youth Academy playing within their respective SAFA structures. Lucas "Masterpieces" Moripe Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium having a capacity of 28,900 and is located in Atteridgeville, a township (South Africa) of Pretoria, South Africa. It is currently used mostly for football matches and serves as part-time home stadium of Premier Soccer League clubs Supersport United and Mamelodi Sundowns who also use the Loftus Versfeld Stadium. The stadium was named after former local soccer player Lucas Moripe. Until 2010 the stadium was known as Super Stadium. Ronwen Hayden Williams (born 21 January 1992) is a South African professional soccer player who plays as a goalkeeper for both Premier Soccer League club Mamelodi Sundowns and South Africa national team. Club career Early career Williams spent part of his youth career with Premier League club Tottenham Hotspurs. SuperSport United Williams joined SuperSport United as a youth player in 2004. MTN 8 is the current branding for a South African soccer cup competition launched in 1972 for teams who finished in the top 8 positions of the league table of the country's preceding top-flight league (currently the DStv Premiership) season. The winners receive R 8 million and the competition's trophy, which is one of the three domestic trophies attainable by its competitors each soccer season, with the other two being the top-flight league title and the country's premier knock-out competition, the Nedbank Cup. Telkom Knockout
The Telkom Knockout was a South African professional football knockout competition which comprised the 16 teams in the South African Premier Soccer League. The competition was established in 1982 and was first known as the Datsun Challenge. Under the new NSL regime in 1984, it became known as the ''JPS Knockout Cup''. It used this name until 1992 when it became known as the ''Coca-Cola Cup''. It was sponsored by the drinks manufacturer until 1996, when it was replaced by the ''Rothmans Cup'' which was changed back to the ''Coca-Cola Cup'' in 2001 due to the new rules regarding tobacco sponsorship in sport. Telkom became the new sponsors in 2006. In all matches there had to be a winner on the day, this will be decided if there is a winner after full-time (90 minutes). The winner of the 2011–12 Nedbank Cup winners, SuperSport United, qualified for the 2013 CAF Confederation Cup. Format The 16 Premier Soccer League clubs, 8 National First Division teams, as well as 8 teams from the amateur ranks compete for the prize money of R6 million. The Nedbank Cup is the current name of South Africa's Premier Soccer League, premier club association football, soccer knockout tournament. While many formats have been used over the years, the tournament has always been based on the idea of giving lower league and amateur teams a chance to compete with clubs from the top league for the cup.
