Sunyani West District
Sunyani West District is one of the twelve districts in Bono Region, Ghana. Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Sunyani District on 10 March 1989; until the northwest part of the district was split off to create Sunyani West District on 1 November 2007 (effectively 29 February 2008); thus the remaining part has been retained as Sunyani District (which it was later upgraded to municipal district assembly status and has been renamed as Sunyani Municipal District on that same year). The district assembly is located in the western part of Bono Region and has Odumase as its capital town. Tertiary institution Sunyani West is notable in then Bono Ahafo Region for hosting the first University of the region. Districts Of Ghana
The Districts of Ghana are second-level administrative subdivisions of Ghana, below the level of region. There are 261 local metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (or MMDA's). History The districts of Ghana were re-organized in 1988/1989 in an attempt to decentralize the government and to assist in development. The reform of the late 1980s subdivided the regions of Ghana into 110 districts, where local district assemblies should deal with the local administration. By 2006, an additional 28 districts were created by splitting some of the original 110, bringing their number up to 138. In February 2008, there were more districts created and some were upgraded to municipal status. This brought the final number to 170 districts in Ghana. The Regions of Ghana constitute the first level of subnational government administration within the Republic of Ghana. As of 2020, there are currently sixteen regions, which are further divided for administrative purposes into 260 local metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (or MMDA's). Bono Region
The Bono region is one of the 16 administrative regions of Ghana. It is as a result of the remainder of Brong-Ahafo region when Bono East region and Ahafo region were created. Sunyani, also known as the green city of Ghana, is the regional capital. Sunyani can pride itself as the cleanest capital city and a major conference destination. Creation of the region The region was created after the Ahafo region and Bono East region respectively have been carved out of the then Brong-Ahafo region. This was in fulfillment of a promise made by candidate Nana Akuffo Addo in his 2016 campaign activities. The implementation of plans for the creation of this region is seeded to the newly created Ministry of Regional Reorganization and Development under the leadership of Hon. Dan Botwe. Fiapre
Fiapre is a town in Sunyani West Municipal in the Bono Region of Ghana. Fiapre is very close to the regional capital town of the Bono Region, Sunyani. Early history History has it that the people of Fiapre migrated first from Jukwaa in Denkyira land after the famous Feyiase war during which the Ashantis led by Nana Osei Tutu defeated the Denkyira army led by Nana Ntim Gyakari. In fact they sought refuge at Bantama in Kumasi. During the period, many people took refuge at Bantama, which became a safe haven during Ashanti's war of expansion. Bantama became over-populated and the people of Fiapre, led by their leader Nana Kyem Amponsah and Obaa Panin Yaa Pomaah, sought permission from their host to move further north. They were granted permission and went to stay temporarily at Techiman Baamire. They took along their black stool. The chief and elders of Techiman Baamire did not want to share their land with Nana Kyem Amponsah and Obaa Panin Yaa Pomaah so they sacked them virtually. ...
