Sunshine Football Club (WRFL)
The Sunshine Football Club, nicknamed Kangaroos, is an Australian rules football club which compete in the Western Region Football League since 1978. They are based in the Melbourne suburb of Braybrook, Victoria, Braybrook. History Formed as the Sunshine YCW Football Club in 1959 as a junior club. They joined the "YCW National Football Association" playing its first senior game was in 1963. After winning three premierships in the YCW NFA, the club transferred to the Western Region Football League, Footscray Districts Football League in 1978. After losing consecutive Grand Finals in 1994 and 1995 in A2 grade the club was promoted to A1 grade (division 1) in 1996 and have remained in the top level of the competition ever since. At the end of the 2000 season with the change in the League's name the club followed suit by dropping the YCW from its title. Western Region Football League
The Western Region Football League is an Australian rules football semi-professional league, based in the western suburbs of Melbourne, for both seniors and juniors. History The league was formed in 1931 as the "Footscray District Football League". During the 1950s, the VFL club Footscray was financially backing the competition, so they decided to bar clubs that were inside the zone. This resulted in six clubs leaving. More changes occurred in 1952 as the league decided that clubs had to provide an under-18 competition; this action reduced the club numbers down to twelve. The next initiative was the introduction of an under-16 competition in 1954. In 1988, the league absorbed clubs from the West Suburban Football League; and, in 2000, to reflect the fact that the league had expanded across the western suburbs, it changed its name to the Western Region Football League. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. Braybrook, Victoria
Braybrook is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, west of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Maribyrnong local government area. Braybrook recorded a population of 9,682 at the . David Darcy
David Darcy (11 August 19431 August 2020) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Footscray in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1960s. Darcy also played for and coached South Adelaide in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). Career Darcy was recruited from Sunshine YCW, a junior club that played in the CYMS competition. David initially spent four seasons at from 1963 to 1966, before a work transfer sent him to Adelaide, South Australia in 1967. He started his career at half forward but in his second season moved to defence where he excelled. As a key position defender he went on to represent Victoria on four occasions. Darcy chose the South Adelaide Panthers but Footscray initially refused to clear him to play. Once the approval came through, he had an outstanding year with the Panthers where he would finish third in the Magarey Medal from only 11 games.
