Sun Tin Wai Estate () is a public housing estate in Tai Wai, New Territories, Hong Kong. It was built on the hill at the south of Chun Shek Estate along Lion Rock Tunnel Road and consists of 8 residential blocks completed in 1981 and 1982. Fung Shing Court () is a Home Ownership Scheme court in Tai Wai, near Sun Tin Wai Estate. It consists of three residential buildings built in 1985. Tai Wai () is an area in the New Territories, Hong Kong, located between Sha Tin and the Lion Rock, within the Sha Tin District. With three rapid transit stations, one of which an interchange station serving two lines, five bus termini and several trunk roads and tunnels connecting it to other parts of the New Territories, such as Tsuen Wan, and Kowloon, Tai Wai is an important transport node in Hong Kong. Geography Tai Wai occupies the southwestern end of the Sha Tin Valley. The Sha Tin area is located directly northeast of Tai Wai. Hill ranges separate Tai Wai from New Kowloon in the south, and from Tsuen Wan in the west. San Tin Village
San Tin Village or San Tin Tsuen (), sometimes referred to as San Tin Wai (), is a village in Tai Wai, Sha Tin District, Hong Kong, located south of Che Kung Temple and east of Sun Chui Estate. Administration San Tin Wai is a recognized village under the New Territories Small House Policy. History San Tin Village was historically a single-clan village of the Lau (), and it now features the Lau Ancestral Hall (). The Lau were Hakkas who first moved from Huizhou to Au Pui Wan Tsuen near Grassy Hill, northwest of Sha Tin, during the 18th century. They were farmers engaged in cultivation. As their population increased, they bought a piece of land from the Kak Tin and Tin Sam villages and established a new village called 'San Tin' (lit. "new field") in the late 1890s. Ching Cheung-ying
Ching Cheung-ying (, born 31 May 1958) is a Hong Kong politician and retired schoolteacher. He is formerly the representative of the Sun Tin Wai constituency of Sha Tin District Council and the former chairperson of the Council. He is a member of the Democratic Party. Teaching career Ching was a Chinese Language and Chinese History teacher at Diocesan Boys' School. In 2002, he opposed the school's move from a free-of-charge Grant School to a fee-paying Direct Subsidy Scheme school. He criticized the move as a unilateral decision which sidelined teachers from the decision-making process, citing an internal secret ballot which showed that 70% of the school's teachers opposed the move. He argued that the Direct Subsidy Scheme excluded poor families from high-quality education and reduced social mobility. New Territories
The New Territories is one of the three main regions of Hong Kong, alongside Hong Kong Island and the Kowloon Peninsula.
