''Summer Side of Life'' is Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot's seventh album. It was released in 1971 on the Reprise Records Label. The album marked a departure from the sound Lightfoot had established on ''Sit Down Young Stranger'' in its use of drums and electric instrumentation, to which he would later return in the second half of the decade. “Redwood Hill” contains elements of bluegrass music. The album reached #38 on the pop chart. "Summer Side of Life" peaked at #98 on the pop singles chart while "Talking in Your Sleep" peaked at #64. The singles reached #21 and #19 respectively in Canada. The track "Cotton Jenny" would later be covered by Anne Murray, for whom it would provide a top-twenty single on the U.S. country singles chart. The song "Love and Maple Syrup" was covered by Taylor Mitchell in 2009. She lost her life in a coyote assault later that year. Summerside is a newer neighbourhood in south Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It is located south of Ellerslie Road (9 Avenue SW), west of 66 Street, north of 25 Avenue SW, and east of 91 Street SW and Parsons Road. A portion of the west boundary runs along Parsons Road, until its southern terminus at 91 Street, which then becomes the western boundary. The community developer of Summerside is Brookfield Residential Properties Inc. Three out of four residences (76%) are single-family dwellings. The remainder are split roughly equally between apartments in low-rise buildings with fewer than five stories (12%) and row houses (11%). The few remaining dwellings are duplexes (1%). Irishtown-Summerside is a town in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It is located about 2.5 miles north of Corner Brook. The Post Office was established on March 1, 1965 and the first Postmistress was Blanch Anderson. The town had a population of 1,418 in the Canada 2016 Census. This contiguous settlement was formerly two separate villages, one of which was known originally as Petipas (or Petipa's) Cove. Summerside is a Canadian city in Prince County, Prince Edward Island. It is the second largest city in the province and the primary service centre for the western part of the island. Summerside is a census-designated place (CDP) in Union Township, Clermont County, Ohio, United States. Its population was 5,083 as of the 2010 census. History Originally known as "East Mount Carmel", the name of the community was changed around the time a post office was established in August 1887. Through history summer has always been considered the easier time of the year. A term used during the pioneer days was "the summer side of life." The original post office and train station were together and opened on Aicholtz Road near Cinti-Batavia Pike / Rt 74 and operated by agent Kate Grissell. The post office board and Ms Grissell decided that they needed to drop the East Mt Carmel moniker and create a new name which was derived from the 'summer side of life' as the result of an actual contest to name the town held in the township. Canadian Forces Base Summerside (CFB Summerside) was an air force base located in St. Eleanors, Prince Edward Island, Canada, now part of the city of Summerside. RCAF Station Summerside World War II The airfield was constructed by the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) between 1940–1941 and was named RCAF Station Summerside. It was home to No. 9 Service Flying Training School RCAF, a flight school that operated under the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP). Relief or emergency airfields were located at nearby RCAF Station Mount Pleasant and Wellington. Airmen were trained on Harvards. In July 1942 No. 9 SFTS moved to RCAF Station Centralia and was replaced by No. 1 General Reconnaissance School RCAF which flew Ansons. The Island Storm is an inactive Canadian professional basketball team based in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. The team is a charter member of the National Basketball League of Canada that began play in the 2011–12 season. The Storm plays its home games at the Eastlink Centre. Former Vermont Frost Heaves head coach Joe Salerno served as the team's head coach for the first six seasons until he parted ways with the team in May 2017. Summerside Airport is located north-northwest of Summerside, Prince Edward Island, Canada. History The airport was formerly a military airfield, established in 1940 as RCAF Station Summerside, changing its name to CFB Summerside in 1968. The base was active in training aircrews in the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan during World War II and hosting search and rescue (SAR) and coastal surveillance units during the Cold War. CFB Summerside was closed in 1990 and transferred to a local development authority named Slemon Park Corporation.
