Sullurupeta
Sullurupeta is a town in Tirupati district of Andhra Pradesh, India. It is a municipality and the headquarters of Sullurpeta mandal and Sullurupeta revenue division. It serves as a gateway to Satish Dhawan Space Centre(SDSC) at Sriharikota. Geography Sullurupeta is located about 77 km east of Tirupati, 90 km south of Nellore and about 83 km north of Chennai, Tamilnadu. It is 16 km west of the world famous ISRO island Sriharikota from where the Indian rockets are launched. The Pulicat lake separates Sullurpeta and Sriharikota. It has an average elevation of 11 meters (36 feet). Sullurupeta Revenue Division
Sullurupeta revenue division is an administrative division in the Tirupati district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is one of the four revenue divisions in the district and comprises nine mandals. The division was part of Nellore district and was made a part of the newly formed Tirupati district on 4 April 2022. Satish Dhawan Space Centre
Satish Dhawan Space Centre - SDSC (formerly Sriharikota Range - SHAR) is a rocket launch centre (spaceport) operated by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). It is located in Sriharikota, Tirupati district of Andhra Pradesh. Sriharikota Range was renamed in 2002 after ISRO's former chairman Satish Dhawan. History Sriharikota island was chosen in 1969 for a satellite launching station. The centre became operational in 1971 when an RH-125 sounding rocket was launched. The first attempted launch of an orbital satellite, Rohini 1A aboard a Satellite Launch Vehicle, took place on 10 August 1979, but due to a failure in thrust vectoring of the rocket's second stage, the satellite's orbit decayed on 19 August 1979. Sullurpeta Mandal
Sullurpeta mandal is one of the mandals in Tirupati district of the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. It is the headquarters of the Sullurupeta revenue division. The mandal is situated on the coast of Bay of Bengal, bounded by Vakadu, Chittamur, Doravarisatram and Tada mandals. Biodiversity Sullurpeta mandal has brackish water ecosystem. Every year, terrestrial and aquatic birds migrate to Pulicat Lake area for a temporary stay. Nelapattu Bird Sanctuary
Nelapattu Bird Sanctuary is a bird sanctuary in Tirupati district, Andhra Pradesh, India, near the village of Nelapattu. It has an area of 458.92 hectares. It is an important breeding site for spot-billed pelicans (''Pelecanus philippensis''). Nelapattu has two major plant communities, ''Barringtonia'' swamp forests and southern dry evergreen scrub. Southern dry evergreen scrub covers most of the sanctuary, including the 288 hectares of Kalluru Reserved Forest and 88 hectares of unreserved forest. The dominant tree and shrub species are ''Manilkara hexandra'', ''Maba buxifolia'', '' Memecylon edule'', ''Buchanania angustifolia'', ''Zizyphus xylopyrus'', and others. Pulicat Lake
Pulicat Lagoon is the second largest brackish water lagoon in India, (after Chilika Lake), measuring . Major part of the lagoon comes under Tirupati district of Andhra Pradesh. The lagoon is one of the three important wetlands to attract northeast monsoon rain clouds during the October to December season.
