Sulev Vahtre
Sulev Vahtre (July 6, 1926 – August 31, 2007) was an eminent Estonian historian. Vahtre was born in Laiuse Parish (now Jõgeva Parish, Jõgeva County). He ended his studyings in University of Tartu in 1955 and worked there until 1993. He studied Estonian agrarian history, medieval chronicles, cultural history, Estonia's Christianization in the 13th century and St. George's Night Uprising. In 1973 he received a PhD. In 1989 Vahtre reestablished the chair of Estonian history University of Tartu and was its chairman until his retirement in 1993. Until his death in Tartu he was the most important historian in Estonia, the chief editor of the sequence of Estonian history (he edited volumes IV and VI) and also a book of Estonian Chronology (first edition 1994, second 2007). His older son Silver Vahtre is an artist, younger son Lauri Vahtre is a politician and historian. Mart Laar
Mart Laar (born 22 April 1960) is an Estonian politician and historian. He served as the Prime Minister of Estonia from 1992 to 1994 and from 1999 to 2002. Laar is credited with having helped bring about Estonia's Economy_of_Estonia#Restoration_of_independence,_modernisation_and_liberalisation, rapid economic development during the 1990s. He is a member of the centre-right Isamaa party. In April 2011, Mart Laar became Minister of Defence (Estonia), Minister of Defence in the cabinet of Prime Minister Andrus Ansip and served until his resignation for reasons of health in May 2012. Tõnis Lukas
Tõnis Lukas (born 5 June 1962) is an Estonian politician, former Minister of Culture from 2019 to 2021 and Minister of Education and Research from 1999 to 2002 and from 2007 to 2011. Life Lukas was born in Tallinn, Estonia. After graduating from secondary school and spending another year in technical school in Tallinn, he went on to study history in University of Tartu. He graduated in 1987 and continued postgraduate studies from 1989 to 1992, receiving his master's degree in history 1997. Tõnis Lukas started his career as a school teacher in Southern Estonia. 1989 he became a lecturer for postgraduate students in the University of Tartu. From 1992 to 1995 he worked as Director of the Estonian National Museum. Since 1995 he has held mainly political posts both on local and national level. Lauri Vahtre
Lauri Vahtre (born 22 March 1960) is an Estonian politician, historian, translator and writer. Education and career Lauri Vahtre was born in Tartu. He graduated from Tartu Secondary School Nr 2 in 1978 and from Tartu University history department in 1984 (1988 PhD). From 1983 to 1985 he worked as a senior research fellow in the Estonian Open Air Museum, then continued his postgraduate studies. From 1988 to 1992 he worked as a senior researcher in the Institute of History of the Estonian Academy of Sciences, from 1989 to 1992 as a senior teacher at the Tartu University. As a historian, Lauri Vahtre is known as a populariser of history and a co-author of several schoolbooks.
