Sujan Chitrakar
Sujan Chitrakar epali:सुजन चित्रकारis a Nepalese artist who currently is the Academic Program Coordinator and an Assistant Professor for Kathmandu University’s School of Art, Center for Art and Design. Besides his teaching career Chitrakar is regarded as an active art activist in Nepal. Introduction Sujan Chitrakar was born in 1974 AD in Kathmandu. Sujan belongs to a Chitrakar family, which a traditional artist among the Newar Community. His third solo exhibition “Let’s Talk about ART baby!” was colossally famous among the Nepalese art community and earned him praise from many other uprising artists. Senior artist and art writer Madan Chitrakar took his time to describe about Sujan Chitrakar and his exhibition. Kathmandu University
Kathmandu University (KU) ( ne, काठमाण्डौ विश्वविद्यालय) is a public autonomous university in Nepal. It is the third oldest university in Nepal, located in Dhulikhel of Kavrepalanchok District, about east of Kathmandu. It was established in 1991 with the motto "Quality Education for Leadership." Chitrakar
Chitrakar (Devanagari: चित्रकार) is a caste within the Newar community of the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal. The Newar caste system is divided according to profession. Accordingly, Chitrakars were painters and mask makers. In Nepal Bhasa, this caste is called "Pun" (पुं) or "Puna". The literal translation of the word Chitrakar from Sanskrit is image maker where "Chitr" in Sanskrit means an image, and "akar" the maker. Traditional occupation The Pun or Chitrakar paint paubhas used in prayer rooms and murals in temples, make masks used for ritual dances, paintings on ceramics and woodblock prints used during festivals. The craft is handed down from father to son according to the division of labour laid down from ancient times. Women generally play a secondary role in the artistic ventures. Bungamati
Bungamati (), is a settlement in Lalitpur Metropolitan Region, Ward No. 22 in Lalitpur District, Nepal. Bungamati is a Newar town on a spur of land overlooking the Bagmati River The first stele of the Licchavi king Amshuverma was found in Bungamati and dated to 605. It contains the earliest mention of the Kailashkut Bhawan palace. Names and history During the Licchavi Kingdom, the town was called Bugayumigrama. The word 'Bugayumi' is a Kiratian dialect so it is the proof that the settlement had come into existence since Kirati period before the Christian Era. During the Malla period, it was called Bungapattan. Bungamati is also called Amarapur or Amaravatipur. The original settlement of Bungamati was located uphills around the recent 'Chunikhel' area; recent 'Bungamati' being the place of cremation surrounded by huge forest, the original place is still called 'Bugal'.
