Suislepa Airfield
Suislepa Airfield (also given as Tõrva, Torva and Torva North) is a former air base in Estonia located in the village of Suislepa, north of Tõrva. It is an abandoned front-line or maritime bomber base that was mainly used in the 1960s. Some remains of runways and taxiways can be seen on Google Earth satellite imagery. Soviet Air Force
The Soviet Air Forces ( rus, Военно-воздушные силы, r=Voyenno-vozdushnyye sily, VVS; literally "Military Air Forces") were one of the air forces of the Soviet Union. The other was the Soviet Air Defence Forces. The Air Forces were formed from components of the Imperial Russian Air Service in 1917, and faced their greatest test during World War II. The groups were also involved in the Korean War, and dissolved along with the Soviet Union itself in 1991–92. Former Soviet Air Forces' assets were subsequently divided into several air forces of former Soviet republics, including the new Russian Air Force. "March of the Pilots" was its song. Suislepa
Suislepa is a village in Viljandi Parish, Viljandi County, Estonia. Until the 2017 administrative reform of Estonian municipalities the village was located in Tarvastu Parish.The population as of 2014 was 305 people. It is 42 km (26 miles) southeast of the town of Viljandi, near the southern coast of Võrtsjärv lake. History The village of Suislepa is located near the Õhne river (also called the Suislepa, Omuli, and Omeli river), first mentioned in 1478 in the German chronicles ''Omelsche Hecke'' by Baltic German settlers. In the 17th century, German nobles Jürgen Schütte Bultler and Franz Scutten began implementing the construction of a large manor in Suislepa. The estate went through a succession of owners until it fell into ruin in the early 19th century. In 1805, Major Karl Gustav von Krüdener Moritz, the son of German Baron von Mengden, began construction on the new Suislepa manor house and outbuildings. Tõrva () is a town ( et, linn) in Tõrva Parish, Valga County, southern Estonia. It is situated on the banks of Õhne River. Tõrva has an area of and a population of 2800 (as of 1 January 2009), making it the second largest of the three towns in Valga County. Tõrva borough () gained its town rights on 2 July 1926.
