Sue Wilkinson (singer)
Susan Mary Wilkinson (19 October 1943 – 4 January 2005), known professionally as Sue Wilkinson, was a British singer-songwriter. She is best remembered for "You Gotta Be A Hustler If You Wanna Get On" (1980), her sole hit on UK Singles Chart which was promoted by an appearance on the BBC's flagship music programme, '' Top of The Pops''. Career Wilkinson appeared on ''Top of The Pops'' on the show of 28 August 1980, to perform her self-penned hit "You Gotta Be A Hustler If You Wanna Get On". Don Powell of the band Slade appeared on the drums. The single, released on the Cheapskate label, reached No. 25 in the UK Singles Chart. Sue Wilkingson presented a show on Raidersfm in 1988 co-presenting before she left in 1989. Wilkinson also worked as an actress and model under the name of Sue England. ''Top of the Pops'' (''TOTP'') is a British Record chart, music chart television programme, made by the BBC and originally broadcast weekly between 1January 1964 and 30 July 2006. The programme was the world's longest-running weekly music show. For most of its history, it was broadcast on Thursday evenings on BBC One. Each show consisted of performances of some of the week's best-selling popular music records, usually excluding any tracks moving down the chart, including a rundown of that week's singles chart. This was originally the Top 20, though this varied throughout the show's history. The Top 30 was used from 1969, and the Top 40 from 1984. Dusty Springfield's "I Only Want to Be with You" was the first song featured on ''TOTP'', while the Rolling Stones were the first band to perform, with "I Wanna Be Your Man". Don Powell
Donald George Powell (born 10 September 1946) is an English musician who was the drummer for glam rock and later hard rock group Slade for over fifty years. Early life As a child, Powell joined the Boy Scouts where he became interested in the drums after being asked to join the band on a Sunday morning parade. After attending Etheridge Secondary Modern School he studied Metallurgy at Wednesbury Technical College. Powell then worked as a metallurgist in a small foundry before turning professional as a drummer. He was athletic and a keen amateur boxer, although an easy going personality. It was he who was sent around with the money collection hat amongst early audiences. Powell became a member of The Vendors, a band that guitarist Dave Hill later joined. Slade
Slade are an English rock band formed in Wolverhampton in 1966. They rose to prominence during the glam rock era in the early 1970s, achieving 17 consecutive top 20 hits and six number ones on the UK Singles Chart. The ''British Hit Singles & Albums'' names them the most successful British group of the 1970s based on sales of singles. They were the first act to have three singles enter the charts at number one; all six of the band's chart-toppers were penned by Noddy Holder and Jim Lea. Cheapskate Records was a record label established by Slade bassist Jim Lea (musician), Jim Lea and his brother Frank Lea in 1979. It was active until 1982, however was later briefly revived for the release of three Slade singles in 1987–88. Aside from Slade, some of the artists on the label were The Dummies, The Ska-Dows, Sue Wilkinson (singer), Sue Wilkinson, Roy Wood, Tich Turner's Escalator, Malcolm Roberts (singer), Malcolm Roberts, Top Secret and The Glitter Band. Sally Farmiloe
Sarah Farmiloe (14 July 1948 – 28 July 2014) was a British actress, best known for ''Howard's Way''. She appeared as Dawn Williams in the first and second series. She was the daughter of Tom Farmiloe, a well-to-do farmer and yacht-broker, and his wife Pam. Sally Farmiloe had a daughter, Jade, in 1992 by Jeremy Neville; the couple split when she was pregnant. Farmiloe garnered considerable tabloid coverage for her affair with the politician Lord Archer from 1996 to 1999. She reunited with Neville and married him in 2002. She adopted her best friend's daughter, Kat, after the friend's death. Farmiloe was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012. She died two years later after the cancer had metastasised to her bones and liver.
