Cheapskate Records
Cheapskate Records was a record label established by Slade bassist Jim Lea (musician), Jim Lea and his brother Frank Lea in 1979. It was active until 1982, however was later briefly revived for the release of three Slade singles in 1987–88. Aside from Slade, some of the artists on the label were The Dummies, The Ska-Dows, Sue Wilkinson (singer), Sue Wilkinson, Roy Wood, Tich Turner's Escalator, Malcolm Roberts (singer), Malcolm Roberts, Top Secret and The Glitter Band. History Cheapskate Records was originally created to release a one-off single by The Dummies, a musical project formed by Jim Lea of Slade and his brother Frank. After recording a demo version of Slade's "When the Lights Are Out" in 1978, a major record label expressed interest in releasing the song, but insisted a proper recording be made. Alive At Reading
"'Alive at Reading'" is an extended play (EP) by the British rock band Slade, released in 1980. ''Alive at Reading'' includes three live tracks recorded at the band's performance at the 1980 Reading Festival. The EP was produced by Slade and reached No. 44 in the UK, remaining in the charts for five weeks. The EP was later included in its entirety on the 2006 Salvo compilation '' Slade Alive! – The Live Anthology''. Background Having returned to the UK from the United States in August 1976, Slade found themselves out-of-favour at the time of the UK's Punk rock explosion. "Let's Dance" is a 1962 hit single by Chris Montez, written and produced by Jim Lee. Original version The song was written by Jim Lee, who produced and released the song on his own Monogram Records. The personnel on the original 1962 recording included Joel Hill on guitar, Ray Johnson on organ, Ray Pohlman on bass guitar and Jesse Sailes on drums. When initially released, the song shot to #4 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart in the U.S., and to No. 2 in the UK Singles Chart. In 1972 the song was coupled as an "oldie" with the Shirelles "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" and re-released in Europe. Based on radio play, the record company, London Records, quickly removed the Shirelles cut and replaced it with the original flip side "You're the One". Background Slade began writing and recording material for their ''You Boyz Make Big Noize'' album in 1986. The album was produced by Slade, except "My Baby's Got It" which was produced by Chas Chandler. Roy Wood's Helicopters
Roy Wood (born 8 November 1946) is an English musician and singer-songwriter. He was particularly successful in the 1960s and 1970s as member and co-founder of the Move, Electric Light Orchestra and Wizzard. Reading Festival
The Reading and Leeds Festivals are a pair of annual music festivals that take place in Reading and Leeds in England. The events take place simultaneously on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the August bank holiday weekend. The Reading Festival is held at Little John's Farm on Richfield Avenue in central Reading, near Caversham Bridge. The Leeds event is held in Bramham Park, near Wetherby, the grounds of a historic house. Headliners and most supporting acts typically play at both sites, with Reading's Friday line up becoming Leeds' Saturday line-up, Reading's Saturday line-up playing at Leeds on Sunday, and Leeds' Friday line-up attending Reading on Sunday. Campsites are available at both sites and weekend tickets include camping. Day tickets are also sold.
