Suck (band)
Suck were a rock band who were part of South Africa's first wave of hard rock titled "The Big Heavies". The group lasted eight months between 1970 and 1971, during which they recorded their lone LP, ''Time to Suck''. ''Classic Rock'' is a British magazine and website dedicated to rock music, owned and published by Future. It was launched in October 1998 and is based in London. The magazine publishes 13 editions a year, mainly covering rock bands from the 60, 70s, 80s and 90s, with the likes of Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, Queen, Black Sabbath, Aerosmith and Deep Purple amongst its most prominent cover stars. Ian Christe
Ian Christe (born 1970 in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland) is an author, disc jockey and the publisher of Bazillion Points Books. He attended Mynderse Academy, The Clarkson School's Bridging Year, and Indiana University Bloomington (1987-1990). Christe is the author of the heavy metal history book '' Sound of the Beast: The Complete Headbanging History of Heavy Metal'', published in English in 2003 and subsequently translated into French, German, Finnish, Spanish, Japanese, Portuguese, Croatian, Italian, Czech, Serbian, and Polish. A weekly radio show known as '' Bloody Roots'' was launched in 2004 based on the book, on the Hard Attack/Liquid Metal station of Sirius XM Radio. "War Pigs" is an anti-war protest song by English heavy metal band Black Sabbath, released in 1970, it is the opening track from the band's second studio album ''Paranoid'' (1970). Overview The original title of "War Pigs" was "Walpurgis", dealing with the witches' sabbath. "Walpurgis is sort of like Christmas for Satanists. And to me, war was the big Satan", said bassist and lyricist Geezer Butler. "It wasn’t about politics or government or anything. It was Evil itself. So I was saying 'generals gathered in the masses / just like witches at black masses' to make an analogy. But when we brought it to the record company, they thought 'Walpurgis' sounded too Satanic. And that's when we turned it into 'War Pigs'. But we didn't change the lyrics, because they were already finished." Time To Suck
''Time to Suck'' is the first and only album by the South African hard rock band Suck. Released in 1971, it was recorded at the EMI Studios in Johannesburg in six hours. Other than the song "The Whip", a Suck original, all songs are covers of bands like King Crimson and Deep Purple. An outtake from the session, a cover of " War Pigs" by Black Sabbath, was released on the compilation ''Rock Today with the Big Heavies!'' in 1972, alongside "Aimless Lady", "21st Century Schizoid Man" and "The Whip". Track list "Aimless Lady" was released as a single in 1971, with "The Whip" on the B side. On the original, Megaphone and Shadoks vinyl editions of ''Time to Suck'', "Sin's a Good Man's Brother" begins side B. "I'll Be Creeping" begins Side B of the Manik release. Acid Rock
Acid rock is a loosely defined type of rock music that evolved out of the mid-1960s garage punk movement and helped launch the psychedelic subculture. Named after lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), the style is generally defined by heavy, distorted guitars, lyrics with drug references, and long improvised jams. Much of the style overlaps with 1960s garage punk, proto-metal, and early heavy, blues-based hard rock. Black Sabbath
Black Sabbath were an English rock music, rock band formed in Birmingham in 1968 by guitarist Tony Iommi, drummer Bill Ward (musician), Bill Ward, bassist Geezer Butler and vocalist Ozzy Osbourne. AllMusic (previously known as All Music Guide and AMG) is an American online music database. It catalogs more than three million album entries and 30 million tracks, as well as information on musicians and bands.
