Time To Suck
''Time to Suck'' is the first and only album by the South African hard rock band Suck. Released in 1971, it was recorded at the EMI Studios in Johannesburg in six hours. Other than the song "The Whip", a Suck original, all songs are covers of bands like King Crimson and Deep Purple. An outtake from the session, a cover of " War Pigs" by Black Sabbath, was released on the compilation ''Rock Today with the Big Heavies!'' in 1972, alongside "Aimless Lady", "21st Century Schizoid Man" and "The Whip". Track list "Aimless Lady" was released as a single in 1971, with "The Whip" on the B side. On the original, Megaphone and Shadoks vinyl editions of ''Time to Suck'', "Sin's a Good Man's Brother" begins side B. "I'll Be Creeping" begins Side B of the Manik release. Grand Funk Railroad (often shortened to Grand Funk) is an American rock band formed in 1968 in Flint, Michigan, by Mark Farner (vocals, guitar), Don Brewer (drums, vocals), and Mel Schacher (bass). ''Valentyne Suite'' is the second album released by the band Colosseum. It was Vertigo Records' first album release, and reached number 15 in the UK Albums Chart in 1969. The album peaked at number 18 in Australia in 1970. Though the song "The Kettle" is officially listed as having been written by Dick Heckstall-Smith and Jon Hiseman, a credit which is confirmed by Hiseman's liner notes for the album, bassist and producer Tony Reeves later claimed that it was written by guitarist and vocalist James Litherland. The song's riff was later interpolated in three songs, notably "Ya Mama" by Fatboy Slim. Reception AllMusic derided the first three tracks, referring to "The Kettle" and "Butty's Blues" as, "tarted-up 12-bar blues", and claiming that "Elegy" was beyond James Litherland's abilities as a vocalist. Free were an English rock band formed in London in 1968, best known for their hit songs "All Right Now" and "Wishing Well". Although renowned for their live shows and non-stop touring, their studio albums did not sell very well until their third, '' Fire and Water'' (1970), featured the massive hit "All Right Now". The song helped secure them a place at the Isle of Wight Festival 1970, where they played to an audience of 600,000 people. In the early 1970s they became one of the biggest-selling British blues rock groups; by the time they disbanded, they had sold more than 20 million records worldwide and had played more than 700 arena and festival concerts. "All Right Now" remains a R&B staple, and has been entered in ASCAP's "One Million" airplay singles club. ''Free'' is the second studio album by English rock band Free, recorded and released in 1969. The band had spent time touring their debut album ''Tons of Sobs'' (1969) the previous year, and there is a marked difference in the musicianship of the band as well as Paul Rodgers's voice. Both albums were released by Island Records, with ''Free'' being produced by Chris Blackwell, the head of Island, taking over from Guy Stevens, who produced the first album. Recording This album saw the burgeoning of the songwriting partnership, glimpsed on ''Tons of Sobs'' with songs such as "I'm a Mover", between Paul Rodgers and 16-year-old bassist Andy Fraser; here, eight of the nine tracks bear a Fraser/Rodgers credit. ''Grand Funk'' (commonly known as ''The Red Album'') is the second studio album by American rock band Grand Funk Railroad. It was released on December 29, 1969, by Capitol Records, just four months after their debut album ''On Time''. Recorded at Cleveland Recording Company, the album was produced by Terry Knight and engineered by Ken Hamann. The album was certified gold by the RIAA, the first for the group. It includes a cover of the Animals' 1966 song " Inside Looking Out", which is still a staple of the band's live concerts. Donovan Phillips Leitch (born 10 May 1946), known mononymously as Donovan, is a Scottish musician, songwriter, and record producer. He developed an eclectic and distinctive style that blended folk, jazz, pop, psychedelic rock and world music (notably calypso). He has lived in Scotland, Hertfordshire (England), London, California, and—since at least 2008—in County Cork, Ireland, with his family. "Season of the Witch" is a song by Scottish singer-songwriter Donovan released in August 1966 on his third studio album, '' Sunshine Superman''. The song is credited to Donovan, although sometime collaborator Shawn Phillips has also claimed authorship. Because of a dispute with Donovan's record company, a UK edition with the song was not released until June 1967. Composition and recording "Season of the Witch" was recorded at the CBS studios in Hollywood, California, where most of ''Sunshine Superman'' was recorded. According to Donovan, he and Phillips wanted a "rock-combo sound" for the song and chose some local musicians from the local clubs. "21st Century Schizoid Man" is a song by the progressive rock band King Crimson from their 1969 debut album ''In the Court of the Crimson King''. Often regarded as the group's signature song, it has been described by sources such as Rolling Stone as "a seven-and-a-half-minute statement of purpose: rock power, jazz spontaneity, and classical precision harnessed in the service of a common aim." Lyrical content The lyrics of "21st Century Schizoid Man" were written by Peter Sinfield and consist chiefly of disconnected phrases which present a series of images.
