Success For All Foundation
Success for All (SFA) are standards-based Comprehensive School Reform curricula for early childhood through middle school, produced by the nonprofit organization Success for All Foundation (SFAF) of Baltimore, Maryland, USA. Psychologist Robert Slavin of Johns Hopkins University founded SFAF along with his wife and research collaborator, Nancy Madden. The SFA and its evidence-based school improvement strategy continue to help improve literacy levels and general education in the US, particularly for children in disadvantaged circumstances. In 2010, Success for All received a nearly $50 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Phonics Curricula
Phonics is a method for teaching people how to read and write an alphabetic language (such as English, Arabic or Russian). It is done by demonstrating the relationship between the sounds of the spoken language (phonemes), and the letters or groups of letters (graphemes) or syllables of the written language. Standards-based Education
Outcome-based education or outcomes-based education (OBE) is an educational theory that bases each part of an educational system around goals (outcomes). By the end of the educational experience, each student should have achieved the goal. There is no single specified style of teaching or assessment in OBE; instead, classes, opportunities, and assessments should all help students achieve the specified outcomes. The role of the faculty adapts into instructor, trainer, facilitator, and/or mentor based on the outcomes targeted. Outcome-based methods have been adopted in education systems around the world, at multiple levels. Australia and South Africa adopted OBE policies from the 1990s to the mid 2000s, but were abandoned in the face of substantial community opposition. The Institute of Education Sciences (IES) is the independent, non-partisan statistics, research, and evaluation arm of the U.S. Department of Education. IES' stated mission is to provide scientific evidence on which to ground education practice and policy and to share this information in formats that are useful and accessible to educators, parents, policymakers, researchers, and the public. Mike David Fischer CBE is the co-founder of the computer company RM plc. Fischer graduated with a physics degree from Oxford University. In 1973, with Mike O'Regan (who had an economics degree from Cambridge), Fischer co-founded Research Machines, a British microcomputer and then software company for the educational market. Jonathan Kozol
Jonathan Kozol (born September 5, 1936) is an American writer, progressive activist, and educator, best known for his books on public education in the United States. Education and experience Born to Harry Kozol and Ruth (Massell) Kozol, Jonathan graduated from Noble and Greenough School in 1954, and Harvard University ''summa cum laude'' in 1958 with an A.B. in English literature. Comprehensive School Reform
The Comprehensive School Reform (CSR) program was a program administered by the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Elementary and Secondary Education. Having an effective school system does not just come from the curriculum, it strives in many ways from every aspect of the school itself. The staff and families are also extremely important in student success. The purpose of Comprehensive School Reform is "to provide financial incentives for schools to develop comprehensive school reforms, based upon scientifically based research and effective practices that include an emphasis on basic academics and parental involvement so that all children can meet challenging state academic content and academic achievement standards." The CSR program made its last award in 2005, although it continued to appropriate funds to one school in 2006–2008. Nancy Madden
Nancy Abigail Madden is an American psychologist who studies education. She is known for the Success for All model of education. She is a professor in the School of Education at Johns Hopkins University. She is best known for her role in developing the ''Success for All'' educational model. Education and career Madden attended Reed College for her undergraduate degree, which she received in 1973. She went on to American University for graduate studies, where she received her PhD in 1980, with a thesis titled ''Effects of Cooperative Learning on the Social Acceptance of Mainstreamed Academically Handicapped Students''.
