Submissions For The 76th Academy Award For Best Foreign Language Film
This is a list of submissions to the 76th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited the film industries of various countries to submit their best film for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film every year since the award was created in 1956. The award is handed out annually by the Academy to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. The Foreign Language Film Award Committee oversees the process and reviews all the submitted films. For the 76th Academy Awards, fifty-six films were submitted to the Academy. Mongolia, Palestine and Sri Lanka submitted a film for the first time. Palestine was excluded from submitting a film the year before, but The Academy made an exception in the interests of inclusiveness. Pjer Žalica
Pjer Žalica (born 7 May 1964 in Sarajevo) is a Bosnians, Bosnian film director, screenwriter and a professor at the Academy of Performing Arts in Sarajevo. His father Miodrag (1926–1992) was a noted dramaturgist and poet who scripted several TV movies. He has directed several short films, only one of which is (''Mostar Sevdah Reunion'' 2000) as well as three feature films, ''Fuse (film), Gori vatra'' (2003), and ''Days and Hours, Kod amidže Idriza'' (2004). Bosnian Language
Bosnian (; / , ) is the standardized variety of the Serbo-Croatian pluricentric language mainly used by ethnic Bosniaks. Bosnian is one of three such varieties considered official languages of Bosnia and Herzegovina, along with Croatian and Serbian. It is also an officially recognized minority language in Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Kosovo. Bosnian uses both the Latin and Cyrillic alphabets, with Latin in everyday use. ''Fuse'' ( bs, Gori vatra, "The Fire is Burning") is a Bosnian comedy/drama film directed by Pjer Žalica. It was released in 2003. Synopsis The plot takes place in the small town of Tešanj in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, two years after the Bosnian War. The town is overridden by corruption, prostitution and organized crime. People of Tešanj live in peace, though the war scars are visible everywhere in town, as well as in people's souls. After the war, the population of Tešanj consists almost exclusively of Bosniaks. Ethnic Serbs now live in surrounding villages. It is announced that U.S. president Bill Clinton will pay a visit to the town. Western bureaucrats arrive to Tešanj to supervise the preparations for the visit.
