Yellapragada Subbarow
Yellapragada Subba Rao (12 January 1895 – 8 August 1948) was a pioneering Indian biochemist who discovered the function of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) as an energy source in the cell, developed methotrexate for the treatment of cancer and led the department at Lederle laboratories in which Benjamin Minge Duggar discovered chlortetracycline (Aureomycin) in 1945. A student of Madras Medical College, his elder brother and younger brother both died due to tropical sprue in the span of 8 days. He subsequently discovered folic acid as a cure for tropical sprue. He discovered methotrexate, a chemotherapy drug still used today and also used for rheumatoid arthritis, and diethylcarbamazine (DEC), the only effective drug for treating filariasis. Most of his career was spent in the United States. Duvvuri Subbarao
Duvvuri Subbarao (born 11 August 1949) is an Indian economist, Central Banker, and retired IAS officer. He was the 22nd Governor of Reserve Bank of India, served under Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. After stepping down from RBI, he was a Distinguished Visiting Fellow first at the National University of Singapore and later at the University of Pennsylvania. Subbarao is a 1972 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Andhra Pradesh cadre. He was appointed the 22nd Governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and served from 5 September 2008, with an extension in 2011 till 4 September 2013. Kanta Subbarao is an Indian virologist, molecular geneticist, and physician-scientist. She is director of the World Health Organization collaborating centre for reference and research on influenza. Subbarao is also a professor at the Doherty Institute. Life Subbarao received a M.B.B.S. from Christian Medical College Vellore and a M.P. H. in epidemiology from the University of Oklahoma. She is a virologist, physician-scientist, and molecular geneticist. Subbarao was convinced to join the influenza program at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) when all of the positions in the respiratory syncytial virus program, which she wanted to join, were filled. Rayaprolu Subba Rao
Rayaprolu Subbarao (1892–1984) was among the pioneers of modern Telugu literature. He is known as Abhinava Nannaya. He was recipient of Sahitya Akademi Award to Telugu Writers for his poetic work ''Misra Manjari'' in 1965. He was inspired by the Western literary movement and brought romanticism into Telugu literature by breaking away from the traditional translations of Sanskrit literature. He introduced the concept of "Amalina Shringara Tatvamu" into Telugu literature. Early life Rao was born in Garlapadu village, Kakumanu Mandal, Guntur district. Koka Subba Rao
Koka Subba Rao (15 July 1902 – 6 May 1976) was the ninth Chief Justice of India (1966–1967). He also served as the Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. Early life He was born into a Velama family at Rajamahendravaram on the banks of Godavari River in present day Andhra Pradesh. His father, a lawyer, died early. Adurthi Subba Rao
Adurthi Subba Rao (16 December 1912 – 1 October 1975) was an Indian film director, cinematographer, screenwriter, editor and producer known for his works predominantly in Telugu cinema. Rao is widely regarded as the intellectual fountain head of Indian drama films. He has garnered seven National Film Awards. Rao made his foray into cinema as Associate to Uday Shankar in the 1948 dance film Kalpana, which was showcased in the "Treasures from National Film Archive of India" at the 39th International Film Festival of India. The 1960 film Nammina Bantu was a work of drama in the broader sense achieved by means of actors who represented mimesis throughout the narrative. Nyapati Subba Rao Pantulu
Nyapathi Subba Rao Pantulu (14 January 1856 – 15 January 1941) was an Indian politician and social activist who served as a member of the Madras Legislative Council between 1893 and 1909. He was also one of the founders of ''The Hindu''. Early life Pantulu was born in a Deshastha Madhva Brahmin family in Nellore on 14 January 1856, but later moved to Rajahmundry. His father Veera Raghava Rao worked in the Customs Department (Salt Branch) in the Madras Government. His mother was Rangamma. As a student, Subba Rao was known for his intelligence and industry. Nanduri Venkata Subbarao F.A., B.A., B.L. (16 December 1895 – 29 May 1957) was a famous Telugu poet. His famous works include ''Yenki Patalu'' (an anthology of songs on and by a woman called Yenki). Kakarla Subba Rao (25 January 192516 April 2021) was an Indian radiologist who served as the first director of Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad. For his contributions to the field of medicine, Rao was conferred Padma Shri in 2000, the fourth highest civilian award by the Government of India. He was also the founder and president of the Telugu Association of North America. Ponnada Subba Rao
Ponnada Subba Rao was an Indian politician and lawyer. He represented the Nowrangpur constituency in the 1st Lok Sabha (lower house of the parliament of India) elected in 1952. Early life and youth He was born in Yellamacnchili, Vizagapatam District, on 7 November 1889, son of Ponnada Ramayya. He studied at London Mission High School in Vizagapatam, Rajah's College in Parlakimedi, Pachaiyappas College in Madras, Maharajah's College in Vizianagaram and at the Madras Law College.
