Střešovice
Střešovice is a neighborhood of green, quiet, village-like streets in the west of Prague. It is located in the Prague 6 district. Střešovice is often called the "local Beverly Hills" because it has been home to some famous residents, including Czech President Václav Havel. The neighborhood is a 10-minute walk from Prague Castle, and the Dejvice district. The major sights include Villa Müller by functionalist architect Adolf Loos (1930) and The Church of St Norbert in Romanesque Revival (1890-1891) style. History Střešovice (also known as Třešovice) appeared between the 10th and 11th centuries, and belonged to the Czech royal family until 1143, when the village was given to the Strahov Monastery. It remained in possession of the monastery until the 20th century. By 1900 Střešovice had 2,500 habitats. Prague 6
Prague 6, formally the municipal district Prague 6 (''Městská část Praha 6''), is the largest Prague district. It is located in the north-west of Prague. It covers 41.54 km² and has 100,600 inhabitants (31.12.2008). The administrative district (''správní obvod'') of the same name comprises Prague 6 and municipal districts Lysolaje, Nebušice, Přední Kopanina and Suchdol. Prague 6 includes cadastral areas Ruzyně, Liboc, Veleslavín, Vokovice, Dejvice, Střešovice and parts of cadastral areas Břevnov, Sedlec, Bubeneč and Hradčany. The district contains several sites (e.g. Břevnov Monastery) and cultural institutions ( Semafor, Divadlo Spejbla a Hurvínka, the Baba district and the Hvězda Game Reserve with its many chateaux in an area of 86 hectares. Villa Müller
The Villa Müller ( cs, Müllerova vila, german: Haus Müller) is a Modernist villa in Prague, Czech Republic built in 1930. It was designed by Adolf Loos as a residence for František Müller, co-owner of the Kapsa-Müller construction company from Pilsen. History The building was commissioned by František Müller and his wife, Milada Müllerová. Mr. Müller was an engineer and co-owned a construction company called Kapsa and Müller. The company specialized in reinforced concrete, developing new construction techniques. Loos' method of design was also in transition, making the timing of the project appropriate. Soon, the architect Karel Lhota set František Müller up with Loos to design the villa. Lhota also contributed to the design due to Loos' poor health. After the building was completed, Loos celebrated his 60th birthday there with a few friends. The couple freely inhabited the house for eighteen years before Communists seized control of it in 1948. Břevnov
Břevnov () is a district in the west of Prague, located in Prague 6. The district is home to the Břevnov Monastery (Czech: ''Břevnovský klášter''). On the territory of Břevnov stems Brusnice brook. Břevnov was first mentioned in the 10th century. In 1907 was promoted to the city and since 1921 then became part of the City of Prague. Apart from the Břevnov monastery, we can find other remarkable buildings on the area. The building of the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences is located in the north-western of Břevnov. The legend of this institute was its former director Otto Wichterle, to whom is devoted the monument in front of the building. Others are: Ladronka homestead, Hostinec U Kaštanu and Hotel Pyramida. Dejvice
Dejvice is a historical community, a municipal quarter of the Prague 6 district of Prague, Czech Republic. Its history can be traced back to the late Roman era. Dejvice is known for its appeal to the upper middle class, foreign diplomatic corps and as a university district. It is also the home to Dukla Prague, one of the most successful football clubs of the Czechoslovak era. History While it is difficult to pinpoint the exact time in which Dejvice came into existence, archeologists have uncovered a pit that dates back to the late Roman Era. This find is the first preserved archeological site in Prague history. Hradčany
Hradčany (; german: Hradschin), the Castle District, is the district of the city of Prague, Czech Republic surrounding Prague Castle. The castle is one of the biggest in the world at about in length and an average of about wide. Its history stretches back to the 9th century. St Vitus Cathedral is located in the castle area. Most of the district consists of noble historical palaces. There are many other attractions for visitors: romantic nooks, peaceful places and beautiful lookouts. Hradčany was an independent borough until 1784, when the four independent boroughs that had formerly constituted Prague were proclaimed a single city. Holešovice
Holešovice () is a district in the north of Prague situated on a meander of the River Vltava, which makes up the main part of the district Prague 7 (an insignificant part belongs to Prague 1). In the past it was a heavily industrial suburb; today it is home to the main site of the Prague's National Gallery in Veletržní palác, and National Technical Museum.
