The Stuttgart Surge are an American football team based in Stuttgart, Germany. They play in the European League of Football (ELF) as part of the league's South division. The team plays its home games at the Gazi Stadium which is currently the oldest sports stadium in Germany still in use. Franchise history The Stuttgart franchise is one of the eight founding members of the European League of Football (ELF), established in 2020. Initially, the franchise was supposed to start as the Stuttgart Scorpions, adopting the name of Stuttgart's German Football League (GFL) team. Since the member's assembly of the ''Stuttgart Scorpions'' decided to disallow the use of the name, the team formed as ''Stuttgart Surge'' reviving the World League of American Football (WLAF) "Surge" franchise of the 1992 World Bowl champion Sacramento Surge. 2023 Stuttgart Surge Season
The 2023 Stuttgart Surge season is the third season of Stuttgart Surge in the European League of Football. It is the first season with a new head coach after a winless season prior. Preseason To the end of the regular season in 2022, the team and coaching staff of the franchise were in turmoil after finishing the first two seasons with 2 - 20. The front office in contrast were kept stabile with two additions to it of former coaches of the organization. Following changes in staff and personnel concerned transactions from the German League Champion Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns to the franchise. Almost the complete staff around Jordan Neumann changed the league, following the demise of the German Football League and its problematic structures. 2022 Stuttgart Surge Season
The 2022 Stuttgart Surge season is the second season of Stuttgart Surge in the European League of Football. Preseason On October 22, 2021 the organisation extended the contract with head coach Martin Hanselmann. After further preparation and signings of coaches, the Surge held their open tryout on November 28, 2021 and signed the first player for the 2022 season in December 12, 2021 with former Frankfurt Galaxy Benjamin "Benji" Barnes. With former NCAA Division-II Truman State University football program starting Quarterback Randall Schroeder, the team signed its third American quarterback in their history. It was the first telecommunications tower in the world constructed from reinforced concrete, and it is the prototype for many such towers worldwide.
