Stuart Wilkinson (rugby League)
Stuart George Wilkinson from Ulverston is an English professional rugby league football coach and former player from Barrow in Cumbria. Coaching career He is the former Elite Coach Mentor for the French Rugby League and assistant coach for Widnes Vikings of the Co-operative Championship. Wilkinson was previously assistant coach with Leeds Rhinos and Wigan Warriors but left the Super League team to join Widnes Vikings in 2008. Wilkinson was also assistant coach to the Leeds Rhinos side that won the World Club Championship in 2005. International He is also a double junior world champion as a Great Britain Academy Coach, beating Australia, New Zealand and France many times between 1998 and 2007. Super League
The Super League (officially known as the Betfred Super League due to sponsorship from Betfred and legally known as Super League Europe), is the top-level of the British rugby league system. At present the league consists of twelve teams, of which eleven are from Northern England, reflecting the sport's geographic heartland within the UK, and one from southern France. The Super League began in 1996, replacing the existing Rugby Football League Championship First Division, First Division and, significantly, switching from a traditional winter season to a summer season. Each team plays 27 games between February and September: 11 home games, 11 away games, Magic Weekend and an additional 4 'loop fixtures' decided by league positions. World Club Challenge
The World Club Challenge is an annual rugby league competition between the winners of the Australasian National Rugby League (NRL) and the European Super League, for the de facto club world championship of the sport. The first such match was played in 1976 but did not become a regular fixture until the late 1980s. It was also punctuated in the 1990s by the Super League war but has been held every year since 2000. The Sydney Roosters are the current champions, defeating St Helens 20–12 in 2020. Between 2015 and 2017, the World Club Challenge became the championship match for the 3 game, World Club Series. Two further exhibition matches were played prior to the main game.
