Stuart Carter (rower)
Stuart Carter (born 31 October 1958) is an Australian former rowing coxswain. He was a ten-time national champion and a representative at world championships and Olympics. In 1976 still aged seventeen and in his final year of school, he coxed Sydney Rowing Club crews to three state titles in a pair, four and eight and to two national titles in a pair and a four; coxed the New South Wales representative eight to a King's Cup victory; and coxed the Australian men's eight at the 1976 Summer Olympics. Club and state rowing Carter was educated at Newington College in Sydney, coxed that school's first VIII in 1975 and was coached by his future club and representative coach Michael Morgan. In 1975 both the entire Newington and the Riverview first VIIIs were selected as New South Wales' #1 and #2 youth eights to contest the Noel Wilkinson Trophy at the Interstate Regatta within the Australian Rowing Championships. Terry O'Hanlon
Edward V "Terry" O'Hanlon is an Australian former rowing coxswain. He was seven times an Australian national champion who coxed Australian representative crews at two World Rowing Championships. Club and state rowing O'Hanlon was educated at St Joseph's College, Hunters Hill. In his senior year of 1972 he coxed the school's second VIII. His senior club rowing was from the Mosman Rowing Club in Sydney and for a period from the Leichhardt Rowing Club. At the Australian University Championships in 1973, 1974 and 1976 he coxed the Sydney University eight. In 2001 he came out of coxing retirement to steer a UNSW Rowing Club lightweight four at that year's University Championships O'Hanlon coxed crews at the Australian Rowing Championships every year from 1975 to 1982 and then in 1986. Rowing is the act of propelling a human-powered watercraft using the sweeping motions of oars to displace water and generate reactional propulsion. Rowing is functionally similar to paddling, but rowing requires oars to be mechanically attached to the boat, and the rower drives the oar like a lever, exerting force in the ''same'' direction as the boat's travel; while paddles are completely hand-held and have no attachment to the boat, and are driven like a cantilever, exerting force ''opposite'' to the intended direction of the boat. Athol MacDonald (born 3 September 1953) is an Australian former representative rower. He was a four-time national champion who competed at World Championships and in the men's eight event at the 1976 Summer Olympics. Club and state rowing Raised in South Australia, MacDonald's senior rowing was from the Adelaide Rowing Club where his younger brother Chester was also a successful senior rower. Athol first made state selection for South Australia in 1973 in the men's eight which contested the King's Cup at the Interstate Regatta. He rowed in two further South Australian King's Cup eights in 1974 and 1975 stroking the 1975 crew to a second place. By 1976 MacDonald had relocated to Sydney and was rowing from the Mosman Rowing Club. Gary Uebergang
Garry Uebergang (born 3 February 1951) is an Australian former rower. He was a three-time national champion and competed in the men's eight event at the 1976 Summer Olympics. Club and state rowing Raised in Queensland, he studied an arts degree at the University of Queensland and rowed in the university's men's eight at the 1971 Australian Intervarsity Championships. He first made state selection for Queensland in the men's senior eight which contested the 1972 King's Cup at the Interstate Regatta. He rowed again for Queensland in the 1973 King's Cup. In Sydney Uebergang rowed from the Mosman Rowing Club. The 1976 Australian Rowing Championships saw an open men's eight event contested (distinct from the King's Cup) and Uebergang rowed in an all-Mosman crew which won that title.
