Gary Uebergang
Garry Uebergang (born 3 February 1951) is an Australian former rower. He was a three-time national champion and competed in the men's eight event at the 1976 Summer Olympics. Club and state rowing Raised in Queensland, he studied an arts degree at the University of Queensland and rowed in the university's men's eight at the 1971 Australian Intervarsity Championships. He first made state selection for Queensland in the men's senior eight which contested the 1972 King's Cup at the Interstate Regatta. He rowed again for Queensland in the 1973 King's Cup. In Sydney Uebergang rowed from the Mosman Rowing Club. The 1976 Australian Rowing Championships saw an open men's eight event contested (distinct from the King's Cup) and Uebergang rowed in an all-Mosman crew which won that title. For the 1977 Australian Championships the New South Wales King's Cup crew split down and contested the coxed four national title in two boats. Rowing (sport)
Rowing, sometimes called crew in the United States, is the sport of racing boats using oars. It differs from paddling sports in that rowing oars are attached to the boat using oarlocks, while paddles are not connected to the boat. Rowing is divided into two disciplines: sculling and sweep rowing. In sculling, each rower holds two oars—one in each hand, while in sweep rowing each rower holds one oar with both hands. There are several boat classes in which athletes may compete, ranging from single sculls, occupied by one person, to shells with eight rowers and a coxswain, called eights. There are a wide variety of course types and formats of racing, but most elite and championship level racing is conducted on calm water courses long with several lanes marked using buoys. Athol MacDonald
Athol MacDonald (born 3 September 1953) is an Australian former representative rower. He was a four-time national champion who competed at World Championships and in the men's eight event at the 1976 Summer Olympics. Club and state rowing Raised in South Australia, MacDonald's senior rowing was from the Adelaide Rowing Club where his younger brother Chester was also a successful senior rower. Athol first made state selection for South Australia in 1973 in the men's eight which contested the King's Cup at the Interstate Regatta. He rowed in two further South Australian King's Cup eights in 1974 and 1975 stroking the 1975 crew to a second place. By 1976 MacDonald had relocated to Sydney and was rowing from the Mosman Rowing Club. Brian Richardson (rower)
Brian Richardson (born 24 July 1947) is an Australian former rower and rowing coach. He competed at the national elite level over a fifteen-year period representing both South Australian and Victoria. He was a representative at three world championships and at the 1976 Montreal and the 1980 Moscow Olympics. In a twenty-three year coaching career, he held national head coaching roles in both Canada and Australia from 1993 to 2008 and personally coached national crews to twelve world championship or Olympic medals. Mosman Rowing Club
Mosman Rowing Club is an all-level competitive and recreational rowing club on the North Shore of Sydney. Since 2007 the club's facilities have been wholly located at The Spit in Sydney's Middle Harbour, the northern arm of Port Jackson. Mercantile club history Mosman's red and white hooped racing colours date back to 1873 when the Mercantile Rowing Club was founded on the west side of Sydney's Circular Quay at Dawes Point. A meeting of warehousemen and merchants' clerks had decided to form a second club the second in the colony (after Sydney Rowing Club). Henry Woolnough was the club's first chairman, he had earlier been a committee member at Sydney. Mercantile's first patron was the Governor of the New South Wales, Sir Hercules Robinson. Malcolm Campbell Shaw (7 October 1947 – 8 May 2014) was a New Zealand-born, Australian representative rower. He competed for Australia at the 1972 Summer Olympics and the 1976 Summer Olympics. Club and state rowing Born in Whakatane, New Zealand, Shaw attended high school there and took a trade as a fitter and welder. He rowed for the Whakatane Rowing Club and raced in a maiden four and as a sculler. He won the maiden single sculls title at the New Zealand national championships in 1968. Shaw relocated to Sydney in 1969 and joined the Mosman Rowing Club.
