Strömma Canal
The Strömma Canal ( sv, Strömma kanal) is a short canal located near Strömma, on Värmdö (island), Värmdö island, Stockholm County, part of Värmdö Municipality in Sweden. Situation This short canal runs parallel to the Svanvägen Road and forms a relatively narrow and shallow connection across Värmdö Island, joining two fjords together, thereby allowing a short cut and safer route from Stockholm and other places to the outer Stockholm archipelago islands such as Sandhamn and Runmarö. A lifting canal road overbridge allows for the passage of larger powered boats and yachts across the Stavnäsvägen Road. Värmdö itself is an island in the inner Stockholm archipelago, and is the largest island in the archipelago. Current status The canal is in regular use and is utilised by the many private pleasure boats and such vessels as the MV ''Strömma Kanal'', a sizeable tourist boat that runs seasonally from Stockholm to the island of Sandhamn. Sandhamn
Sandhamn (Swedish for "Sand Harbour") is a small settlement in the central-peripheral part of the Stockholm Archipelago in central-eastern Sweden, approximately 50 km (30 mi) east of Stockholm. Sandhamn is located on the island Sandön ("Sand Island"), which is, however, colloquially referred to as Sandhamn. One of the most important natural ports in the archipelago with easy access to the Swedish capital, Sandhamn has been popular for pleasure boating since the late 19th century. It is known for its tavern, its clubhouse, and its harbour. While the settlement only has a hundred permanent inhabitants, the number of residents increases to 2-3,000 during the summer. Värmdö (island)
Värmdö is an island in the innermost region of the Stockholm archipelago and covers an area of 181.40 km², making it the largest island in the archipelago. Värmdö is after Gotland and Öland the third largest island on the eastern coast of Sweden. Värmdö lies in Stockholm County. Most of it forms part of Värmdö Municipality along with other islands, but the western end is part of Nacka Municipality, which lies mostly on the mainland, to which Värmdö is connected by a road bridge. Canals or artificial waterways are waterways or engineered channels built for drainage management (e.g. flood control and irrigation) or for conveyancing water transport vehicles (e.g. water taxi). Uppland
Uppland () is a historical province or ' on the eastern coast of Sweden, just north of Stockholm, the capital. It borders Södermanland, Västmanland and Gästrikland. Provinces Of Sweden
The provinces of Sweden ( sv, Sveriges landskap) are historical, geographical and cultural regions. Sweden has 25 provinces; they have no administrative function (except for in some cases as sport districts), but remain historical legacies and a means of cultural identification as pertains, for example, to dialects and folklore. Several of them were subdivisions of Sweden until 1634, when they were replaced by the counties of Sweden (''län''). Some were conquered later on from Denmark–Norway. Others, like the provinces of Finland, were lost. Lapland is the only province acquired through colonization. In some cases, the administrative counties correspond almost exactly to the provinces, as is Blekinge to Blekinge County and Gotland, which is a province, county and a municipality.
