Stryphnodendron Adstringens
''Stryphnodendron adstringens'' ( pt, barbatimão) is a species of legume in the genus ''Stryphnodendron'' found in Brazil. ''Holcocera cerradicola'' is a moth, whose larvae feed on ''S. adstringens''. Chemistry ''Stryphnodendron adstringens'' stem bark is used to produce tannins of the prorobinetinidins (flavanols oligomers containing robinetinidol) or prodelphinidins type. These are robinetinidol-(4β → 8)-epigallocatechin, robinetinidol-(4α → 8)-epigallocatechin, robinetinidol-(4β → 8)-epigallocatechin 3-O-gallate, robinetinidol-(4α → 8)-epigallocatechin 3-O-gallate, robinetinidol-(4α → 6)-gallocatechin and robinetinidol-(4α → 6)-epigallocatechin, in addition to the tentatively characterized, robinetinidol β → 6(8)gallocatechin and robinetinidol-(4α → 8)-gallocatechin.

Carl Friedrich Philipp (Karl Friedrich Philipp) von Martius (17 April 1794 – 13 December 1868) was a German botanist and explorer. Life Martius was born at Erlangen, the son of Prof Ernst Wilhelm Martius, court apothecary. He graduated PhD from Erlangen University in 1814, publishing as his thesis a critical catalogue of plants in the university's botanical garden. After that he continued to devote himself to botanical study, and in 1817 he and Johann Baptist von Spix were sent to Brazil by Maximilian I Joseph, the king of Bavaria. They travelled from Rio de Janeiro through several of the southern and eastern provinces of Brazil and travelled up the Amazon River to Tabatinga, as well as exploring some of its larger tributaries. Frederick Vernon Coville
Frederick Vernon Coville (March 23, 1867 – January 9, 1937) was an American botanist who participated in the Death Valley Expedition (1890-1891), was honorary curator of the United States National Herbarium (1893-1937), worked at then was Chief botanist of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and was the first director of the United States National Arboretum. He made contribution to economic botany and helped shape American scientific policy of the time on plant and exploration research. Prodelphinidin is a name for the polymeric tannins composed of gallocatechin. It yields delphinidin during depolymerisation under oxidative conditions. Natural occurrences Prodelphinidins are one of the two sorts of tannins in grape (the other being procyanidins) being produced especially in the skin of the berry.
