Striegistal
Striegistal is a municipality in the district of Mittelsachsen, in Saxony, Germany. In 1994, the unification of the former municipalities of Berbersdorf, Goßberg, Mobendorf and Pappendorf as part of the regional administrative reform, created the municipality of Striegistal. In 2008 it absorbed the former municipality Tiefenbach. It received its name from the two rivers that flow through the community, the Little Striegis and the Big Striegis. Mittelsachsen ("Central Saxony") is a district ('' Kreis'') in the Free State of Saxony, Germany. History The district was established by merging the former districts of Döbeln, Freiberg and Mittweida as part of the district reform of August 2008. Geography The district stretches from the Erzgebirge ("Ore Mountains") on the Czech Republic–Germany border to the plains between Leipzig and Dresden. The district borders (from the west and clockwise) the state Thuringia, the districts of Leipzig, Nordsachsen, Meißen, Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge, the Czech Republic, Erzgebirgskreis, the urban district Chemnitz, and the district of Zwickau. The geography of the district varies considerably, stretching from the northern part which almost reaches the North German Plain, to the southern part in the mountainous Erzgebirge region. David Schirmer
David Schirmer (29 May 1623 – 1686) was a German lyric poet and librarian, who also used the pseudonyms ''Der Bestimmende'', ''Der Beschirmende'' and ''DiSander''. He is considered one of the most gifted lyric poets of the Baroque era. Biography Schirmer was born in Pappendorf into a family of evangelical pastors that already had a literary tradition. Initially educated by his father, in 1640, he studied under Christian Gueintz at the '' Gymnasium'' in Halle. In 1641, he enrolled as a student at Leipzig, and from 1645, studied under August Buchner in Wittenberg. In 1647 Philipp von Zesen admitted him into his literary society, the ''Deutschgesinnte Genossenschaft''. From 1649 Schirmer worked as ''Hofdichter'' (court poet) at Dresden, and in 1650 his first collection of poetry was published. Schirmer obtained musical settings for 68 of his poems from the Dresden court musician Philipp Stolle, and these were published in 1654 as the songbook ''Singende Rosen Oder Liebes-un ...
