Strange Glue
"Strange Glue" is a song by Welsh rock group Catatonia (band), Catatonia. Written by guitarist Owen Powell, it was the band's fourth single to be released from ''International Velvet (album), International Velvet'' and charted at 11 on the UK Singles Chart. As a solo artist, lead singer Cerys Matthews later sang "Strange Glue" merged with the song "Galway Shawl" in concert. B-side The single's B-side, "That's All Folks", was originally intended for the ''International Velvet (album), International Velvet'' album and had appeared on promo copies around the time of "I Am the Mob", but it was later replaced by "My Selfish Gene" as the album's closer. The song is a scathing attack on Catatonia (band), Catatonia's American label, Warner Records, Warner, written in 1997 when the band feared that they were to be dropped by the label or were to split up. Catatonia (band)
Catatonia were an alternative rock band from Wales who gained popularity in the mid-to-late 1990s. The band formed in 1992 after Mark Roberts met Cerys Matthews and Kirsty Kennedy. The first major lineup featured Dafydd Ieuan of Super Furry Animals on drums, Paul Jones on bass, and Clancy Pegg on keyboards. With this line-up the band recorded two EPs, ''For Tinkerbell'' and ''Hooked''. Pegg was fired prior to work on their first studio album, ''Way Beyond Blue'', and during the recording of the album the band was joined by drummer Aled Richards, replacing Ieuan, who left to focus full-time on Super Furry Animals. During the live promotional appearances for the album the band was joined by guitarist Owen Powell. This latest incarnation of the band lasted until its dissolution in 2001. "I Am the Mob" is a song by Welsh rock band Catatonia from their album '' International Velvet''. It became the band's second top 40 hit, peaking at No.40. The song's lyrics refer to the gangster movie ''The Godfather'', with lines "I put horses' heads in people's beds, cause I am the Mob", and "That Luca Brasi: ah, he sleeps with the fishes". The song received very little airplay, due to the lyrics being considered unfriendly for radio stations. The recording begins with a short sample "from a discussion on bullying lifted from ''Jenny Jones'' – an American talk show." Cerys Matthews (; born 11 April 1969) is a Welsh singer, songwriter, author, and broadcaster. She was a founding member of Welsh rock band Catatonia and a leading figure in the "Cool Cymru" movement of the late 1990s.
