Strada statale 148 Pontina (SS 148), previously known as Strada regionale 148 Pontina (SR 148), is a highway that connects Rome to Terracina, passing through Latina and through the localities of Pomezia, Ardea in the Metropolitan City of Rome and for Aprilia, Pontinia and Sabaudia in province of Latina. History Traced on the route of the ancient via Pontina or via Severiana, the northern section, between Rome and Borgo Piave ( LT), was built in the forties and inaugurated in 1950. The southern section, between Borgo Piave and Terracina, was built between the sixties and seventies with the name of "via Mediana", integrating and expanding the existing road network, including in particular a large part of the reclamation road called "via Lunga" built in the thirties for the reclamation of the Agro Pontino. Sabaudia
Sabaudia is a coastal town in the province of Latina, Lazio, in central Italy. Sabaudia's centre is characterised by several examples of Fascist architecture. Villa Volpi, a neoclassical seaside villa built for Countess Nathalie Volpi of Misurata, is located on the sand dunes of Sabaudia. History It is one of several towns built on the reclaimed marshland of the ancient Pontine Marshes, ''Agro Pontino''. This marsh was drained under orders from Benito Mussolini. Vast tracts of malaria-infested swamp were drained by workers transported from poor areas of northern Italy, leaving the coastal area south of Rome with rich farmland. Via Severiana was an ancient Roman road in central Italy leading in Latium (modern Lazio), running southeast from Portus to Tarracina (passing trought the Isola Sacra), a distance of 80 Roman miles (c. ) along the coast. A restoration and reunion of existing roads was carried out with a work of lastrification in 198–209AD, during the reign of emperor Septimius Severus (from which the road would have taken its name), in order to connect more quickly the maritime towns of Ostia, Lavinium, Ardea, Antium and the routes that came there from Rome. Pontinia is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Latina in the Italian region Lazio, located about southeast of Rome and about southeast of Latina. ''Anas'' is a genus of dabbling ducks. It includes the pintails, most teals, and the mallard and its close relatives. It formerly included additional species but following the publication of a molecular phylogenetic study in 2009 the genus was split into four separate genera.
